Modernizing Agricultural Spraying in the Philippines

The Philippines faces agricultural challenges, particularly from pests and diseases affecting crop development, necessitating the use of modern pesticides and fertilizers. Traditional farming methods are becoming inefficient, prompting a shift towards automated spraying equipment to reduce labor and improve productivity. Recent studies indicate a growing demand for agricultural sprayers due to increased farmer awareness of modern techniques and the need for updated standards to enhance safety and product quality.

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Philippines is facing various agricultural conditions and

dilemmas; one of the lists is the pests and diseases that attack crops

and give unprogressive development of the whole field if they are not

controlled by the usage of pesticides, fungicides and herbicides. It is

also necessary to apply fertilizer to the crops. For farmers, traditional

farming is quietly unproductive nowadays as it is laborious, less

competitive and consumes extra time on the field. One way is to

modernize the farmer’s spraying equipment used to control pests and

diseases. Farmers are commonly used hand-operated knapsack

sprayer; but it gives the operator exhaustion that can cause a farmer

to work inefficiently.

In agriculture, agriculture spraying performs a big past in

growing crops. Sprayer is a piece of equipment that used to spray

pesticide on the form land and it reduces the human in cropping.

Getting tired while pumping fertilizer has been the biggest

problem for the farmers specially the older farmers. This task simply

replaced by automated sprayer which reduces the farmer effort.

Global study- data bridge market research analysis that the

agricultural sprayer market was high cost. The demand for agricultural

sprayers has increase due to increase of farmer awareness using

modern methods techniques to reduce time and effort and increase

effective agricultural strategies using technology.

National study in 2016, Philippine Council of Agriculture Fisheries

(PCAF) Agricultural and Fishery Mechanization Committee (AFMeC)

issued resolution NO.6 series of 2016 “The purpose of the revision is to

update the standard to reflect current technologies on knap sak

sprayer and address procurement challenges to improve the quality of

the product. They are taking into consideration the revision which to

ensure the safety. Safety and environmental requirements (ISO19932

1:2013 Equipment for crop protection). Test method (ISO19932-

2:2013).

Local study the break through of technology is very high

potential in agriculture. It attract great deal of scientific interest due to

sensor electronic advances and emerge fast compact of micro

controller and lightweight high- compositive.
