Banning abortion is the same as a mass slaughter to women.
According to an article by Olga Khazan, published by The Atlantic, in August
2018 the Argentine senate denied a bill that would have decriminalized abortion, less
than a week later a woman was found dead after trying to terminate her own pregnancy.
This woman, known as Elizabeth is just one of the 40 women per year that die from
unsafe abortions in Argentina. Now, with the leaked Politico report showing the draft of
the supreme court decision on Roe v Wade, American women are in danger of facing
the same fate as Elizabeth. Along with affecting women, this could affect the LGBTQ+
community, same sex marrige, and availability of contraception. I am speaking to you
guys today to inform you of what that means and to discuss the possible results women
will face if Roe v Wade ends up overturned and to show you some helpful resources.
If the supreme court does end up with the same result as the draft, which is
likely, there is no positive outcome, and would be only detrimental to the health and
freedoms of women. 25 states will likely ban abortion, or severly restrict it like Texas
and Oklahoma have already recently done. According to an NBC News analysis of data
from the Center for Reproductive Rights, 13 of these states already have trigger laws
that would ban abortion almost immediately. Some, many, or even all of these states
will ban it without exceptions for things like rape, incest, possibly ectopic pregnancies,
and they may even criminalize miscarriges. If you guys aren’t aware, an ectopic
pregnancy is where the embryo plants in the fallopian tubes, and if not removed, will kill
the mother. I just wonder how these people call themselves pro life if they are only
focusing on a fetus, a little clump of cells with no functioning organs or body, rather than
a living breathing human being who is already in the process of living their lives. This is
taking away the freedom of bodily autonomy for women and seems to be pushing us
back to the 1900’s when we were housewives that got beaten by our husbands, and
next thing you know they'll take away our right to vote.
Also, if you weren't aware, roe v wade was codified on the right to privacy, which
essentially means that a person has the right to keep information confidential. There are
many other cases that are also codified to the right of privacy which could also end up
being in jeopardy if overturned. The right to contraception with Griswold v Connecticut,
the right to homosexuality through Lawrence v Texas, the right to same sex marriage
through Obergerfell v Hodges, the right to interracial marriage through Loving v Virginia,
the right to possess adult content through Stanley v Georgia, and the right to learn a
language different than english through Meyer v Nebraska. If roe v wade gets
overturned all of these laws could be on the chopping block of the supreme court,
affecting millions.
Okay so now because of all of this I want to share with you guys some helpful
resources. First off i recommend joining the satanic temple, and no, they do not believe
in satan, or any deities, they're actually atheist. It is a recognized religion and one of
their main tenants is bodily autonomy. Basically, by joining you cannot be denied an
abortion because it is allowed through religion. There is also the church of prismatic
light, which along with bodily autonomy, they also protect lgbt rights and reproductive
healthcare. Aid access can mail abortion pills, if the pregnacy is under 10 weeks along.
Repo Legal Helpline is a confidential helpline where you can get legal information or
advice about self-managed abortion, or acess to abortion in general. Also, heres the
miscarriage and abortion hotline. I also want to just say please please vote. I'm pretty
sure we're all of voting age here and when it comes on the ballot you need to support
women. Now I know you guys are going to think it doesn't involve you but I'm pretty sure
none of yall guys want to be parents and have to pay child support while still in college.
Accidents do happen, you know.
Before I finish I just want to let you guys know that the supreme court probably
isn't making these decisions for the people. Im quoting Justice Alito here because he
calls it “a domestic supply of infants”, and well I didn't know there was a ‘supply’ of
infants. You know to me it just sounds like they're pro forced birth, trying to get more
babies to keep our failing economy running. I think it really just shows how much they
really do not care about women.
