Answer

The four features of GPRS are:

Higher data rates: GPRS supports higher data rates compared to GSM,
allowing for faster data transfer.

Packet switching: GPRS uses packet switching technology, which allows for
more efficient use of network resources.

Multislot: GPRS supports multislot, which means that multiple data streams
can be transmitted simultaneously.

Cell switching: GPRS supports cell switching, which allows for seamless
handover between cells.

The GPRS architecture consists of two mainPRS network and the GPRS
terminal. The GPRS network is responsible for providing the necessary
infrastructure and services for GPRS, while the GPRS terminal is responsible
for providing the necessary hardware and software for GPRS.

The GPRS architecture is similar to the GSM architecture, but with some key
differences. The GPRS architecture uses packet switching technology, while
the GSM architecture uses circuit switching technology. Additionally, the
GPRS architecture supports multislot and cell switching, while the GSM
architecture does not.

GPRS works by dividing data into small packets and transmitting them over
the network. The packets are then reassembled at the receiving end to
reconstruct the original data. GPRS also uses a technique called multiplexing,
which allows multiple data streams to be transmitted simultaneously over
the same channel.

The advantages of GPRS compared to previous GSM-enabled systems

include:

Higher data rates: GPRS supports faster data transfer.

More efficient use of network resources: GPRS uses packet switching

technology, which allows for more efficient use of network resources.

Improved support for multimedia services: GPRS supports multimedia

services, such as video calling and messaging.

The limitations of GPRS include:

Limited coverage: GPRS coverage is not as widespread as GSM coverage.

Limited data transfer rates: While GPRS supports higher data rates than
GSM, it still has limitations in terms of data transfer rates.

Limited support for multimedia services: GPRS support for multimedia

services is limited compared to other technologies.

The functions of GPRS include:

Providing higher data rates: GPRS supports higher data rates, allowing for
faster data transfer.

Enabling packet switching: GPRS uses packet switching technology, which

allows for more efficient use of network resources.

Supporting multislot and cellPRS supports and cell switching, which allows
for seamless handover between cells.

The other two higher data rate technologies are CDMA and LTE.

Short Messaging Service (SMS) is a service provided by GSM networks that

allows users to send and receive text messages. SMS messages are typically
limited to 160 characters and can be sent to and from mobile phones, as well
as other devices.

The operation of SMS involves the following steps:

The sender composes a message and sends it to the mobile phone.

The message is then transmitted over the network to the recipient’s mobile
phone.

The recipient’s mobile phone receives the message and stores it.

The recipient can then read the message on their mobile phone or on
another device.
