Jersey Aquatic Center Lifeguard Orientation

I. Jersey Aquatic Center Mission Statement


a. “To host a celebration of families gathering to share in their children’s love of
swimming.”

achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely
associated, or for qualities or possessions that are widely admired.

by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.

conduct towards yourself and others.

c. How this relates to you
i. At Jersey Aquatic Center our lifeguards embody the mission statement
and execute JAC core values while safeguarding all patrons by ensuring
the safety, security, and orderliness of the JAC waterfront facilities.

II. Jersey Aquatic Center Lifeguard Expectations:


a. The Professional Lifeguard:
i. As professional lifeguards we have a legal responsibility to our swimmers
participating in various aquatic activities:
1. JAC Swim team
2. JAC Swim School students
3. Stingrays’
4. Swim Meet Athletes
5. Outside renters (Ex: Scarlet-Elite)
6. Water Aerobics
7. Water Polo
8. …. And more in the future
ii. Our PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY is to prevent drowning and other injuries
from occurring at the Jersey Aquatic Center. We do this by:
1. Monitoring activities in or near the water
2. Preventing injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous
situations and behaviors
3. Enforcing and educating, the rules and regulations of the Jersey
Aquatic Center to our patrons.
4. Recognizing and responding quickly to emergency situations.
5. Administering first aid and CPR when needed
6. Working as a team with other lifeguards, facility staff, and
management.
iii. We also have SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Testing the pool water chemistry – always check in with Armani or
Peter if you are unsure about whether to test.
2. Cleaning or performing maintenance- THERE IS ALWAYS
SOMETHING TO DO!
3. Performing down shift duties
4. Doing safety checks around the facility (ex. Checking the ladder
rungs and making sure they are not wobbly)
