The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme started in 1987 with the aim of promoting

grassroots international exchange between Japan and other countries. So far, there have been more than
77,000 participants from 78 countries around the world. The JET programme is implemented by the
Japanese government and Japanese local authorities.

Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) (1) Period of Participation
Participants employed as ALTs are placed in schools or local – In principle, participation is for a one-year period starting from
