● The producer must supply all the relevant information on the package and
label of the product.
● As per the Right to Information Act 2005, section 4, all relevant information is
required to be made available to all citizens of the country
b) Right to Seek Redressal:
● According to this right, the consumer has the right to get compensation or
seek redressal against unfair trade practices or any other exploitation.
● The consumer protection Act provides several reliefs to consumers, for
example:
i) Removal of defect in goods or deficiency in services.
ii) Replacement of the defective product with a new one (free from any
defect).
iii) Compensation paid for any loss or injury suffered by the consumer due
to the negligence of the seller, etc.
Ans 15. Importance of consumer protection from businessmen’s point of view are:

1) Long-term interest of business:


● In the race of competition the businessmen can win and capture a big share in
the market only when they are able to satisfy their customers by designing the
products keeping in mind the requirements of customers.
● The businessmen who ignore the interest and satisfaction of customers lose
their goodwill and clients. So, it is in the interest of the business itself to keep its
customers satisfied.
2) Businessmen uses society’s resources:
● Businessmen use resources which belong to society.
● Thus, they have a responsibility to supply such goods and services which are in
public interest.
3) Social responsibilities:
● A businessman has social obligations towards various groups and customer is
one of the important groups.
● It is the responsibility of businessmen to provide quality goods at reasonable
price.

Ans 18. Three-tier Consumer Grievances Machinery under the Consumer Protection
Act, 2019 are:

1) District forum:
● The State Government shall establish a District Consumer Disputes
Redressal Commission, to be known as the District Commission.
● Each District Commission shall consist of:
a) A President; and
b) Not less than two and not more than a such number of members as may
be prescribed, in consultation with the central government.
● The District Commission will entertain complaints where the value of goods
and services does not exceed Rs 50 lakhs.
● Any person aggrieved by an order made by the District Commission may
prefer an appeal against such order to the State Commission on the grounds
of facts or law within a period of 45 days from the date of the order.
2) State Commission:
● The State government shall, by notification, establish a State Consumer
Disputes Redressal Commission to be known as the State Commission.
● Each State Commission shall consist of:
a) A President; and
b) Not less than four or not more than a such number of members as
may be prescribed in consultation with the central government.
● The State Commission shall have jurisdiction to entertain complaints where
the value of the goods or services paid as consideration is above Rs 50 lakhs
but does not exceed upto Rs 2 crore.
● Any person aggrieved by an order made by the State Commission may prefer
an appeal against such order to the National Commission within a period of
30 days from the date of the order.
3) National Commission:

● The Central Government shall establish a National Consumer Disputes
Redressal Commission to be known as the National Commission.
● The National Commission shall consist of:
a) A president; and
b) Not less than four and not more than such number of members as
may be prescribed.
● The National Commission shall have jurisdiction to entrain complaints
where the value of the goods or services paid as consideration is above Rs
2 crore. Appeals against the orders of any State Commission can also be
filed in the National Commission.
● Any person, aggrieved by an order made by the National Commission may
prefer an appeal against such order to the Supreme Court within a period
of 30 days from the date of the order.
