CANNON
FRENCH GARRISON GUN (1650-1700). The gun is
on a sloping wooden platform at the embrasure.
Note the heavy bed on which the cheeks of the
carriage rest and the built-in skid under the
centre of the rear axletree.

19th Century Cannon
1. Introduction
The miniature cannon project aims to create a scaled-down replica of a traditional
cannon, combining aesthetics and functionality. This project utilizes aluminium for the
barrel and a wooden frame for structural support, resulting in a visually appealing and
durable model.
2. Objectives
• To design and construct a miniature cannon that is both functional and visually
appealing.
• To utilize aluminium and wood as primary materials for construction design.
• To incorporate bearing for tires to enhance mobility.
• Understand the functions and working of cannon by making and demonstrating
model.
3. Materials Used
• Aluminium: For the cannon barrel.
• Wood: For the frame and base.
• Threading: M5 threading.
• Wheels: bearings are used as wheels.
• Adhesives: Wood glue and metal adhesive.
• Finishing Materials: Paint (Brown colour), varnish for wood.
• Nails: Used to withhold the frame.
• Iron rods: For axel of cannon.
4. Design and Planning
The design phase involved sketching the miniature cannon and determining the
dimensions. The cannon was designed to be approximately 13 mm in length, with a
barrel diameter of 2.5 inches. The wooden frame was designed to support the barrel and
provide stability containing.
Process:
The formation of cannon contains following face:
Phase 1:
Taking Dimensions:
1. Taking dimensions of cannon.
Figure 1 Cannon
2. Wooden Frame dimensions:
1. The Wooden frame length is 130mm.
2. The height is 90mm.

Wheels:
The wheels are of bearings and internal diameter is of 14mm and outer diameter is of 25mm.
Phase 2:
Construction of wooden Frame:
1. First take a wood and make a of two-piece frame taking length of 130mm and hight of
90mm.
2. Now from top make a mark of 2 and move down of 10mm and then the dame until we
reach to bottom of frame.
3. Use drill to make 13mm hole on bottom from where the wheels are attached to surface
equally.
4. Then two holes are done of 12mm on both sides of frame.
5. Then cut a piece of wood of 60mm length and 70mm height.
6. Draw an arc of 25mm and cut the surface with marking of arc.
7. Now join all parts using picture instructions and nails.
Phase 3:
Construction of Axel for frame:
1. To make a axel for cannon take two rods of 120 mm and check the diameter of them.
2. If it is Greater than 14mm than reduce it.
3. After turning process on lathe, attach the wheels to rod and make sure they are fixed.
4. Then use drill machine to make a hole of 5 mm on both sides of rods and attach a pin
to fix the wheels.
Phase 3:
Construction of Cannon:
1. To construct a cannon first attach the cannon on the lathe machine and first reduce the
diameter of one side using turning and facing process.
2. Make the length of canon exact to 130mm.
3. The first diameter will be 25mm and second will be 35mm.
4. Use the following formula to calculate the taper turning process.
5. Then make a taper up to [Link] than left 5mm length containing diameter of 35mm.
6. Then let the other distance of 65mm and at the distance of 35mm from second side
make it round.
7. Then take a drill of 10mm and drill in through the side containing 25 mm and depth
will be 60mm.
8. Take the depth of hole and mark on the top of cannon then make a hole of 5mm from
top to the inner hole until they meet.
9. Use files and sand papers for smoothing the cannon and also use polish to make
finishing.
Phase 4:
Assembly of parts:
1. First assemble the wheels and tires using diagram.
2. Then attach the cannon on the frame and fix it using frame attaching points.
Conclusion:
After assembling test, the cannon by using ball of 9 mm.
