⮚ Urbanization: The Industrial Revolution led to a massive migration from rural areas to urban centers, as people
sought jobs in factories and industries. This caused the population of cities to grow rapidly, often beyond the
capacity of existing infrastructure.
⮚ Transportation Infrastructure: Cities saw the introduction of public transport systems, such as trams, buses, and
later subways, to move large numbers of people within increasingly crowded cities.
⮚ Land demand: The demand for land increased due to the need for factories and other manufacturing buildings.
⮚ Housing and Public Health: As cities grew rapidly, the demand for housing outstripped supply, leading to the
development of cheap, poorly constructed housing. he lack of proper sanitation, sewage systems, and clean water
supply contributed to public health crises, with frequent outbreaks of diseases.
⮚ Environmental Impact: The rapid growth of factories and heavy industries led to air and water pollution. Smoke
from coal-burning factories filled the air, while industrial waste often polluted rivers and other water sources. The
extraction of raw materials, such as coal, iron ore, and timber, was intensified during the Industrial Revolution.
Regional planning had to adjust to manage these resources sustainably, while addressing the environmental
degradation caused by industrial activities.
