A. Review (Communication) – 5 minutes
How are you students? Were fine teacher.
Good, today is the start of our 4th Quarter and we are going
to discuss throughout this quarter are the topics about
statistics and probability.

Before we start our discussion, I’ve prepared a song that is

connected to our lesson in order to start the first day of the
last quarter productive, energize and enjoyable one. It is
entitled Data, Data which is sang in the tune of twinkle,
twinkle little star but with a twist.

While singing, students will pass the candies and they will
pick one of their favorite until the last student will pick the
last candy.
NOTE: There are 25 students and there are 5 kinds of
candies.

Data, data. What are you? Students are singing.

We COLLECT you, oh its true.
ANALYZE you that’s my plan
INTERPRET to understand
Data, data what are you?
I’ll PRESENT you right on cue.

Teacher will announce to the class that the candies will

served as their groupings. There are five groups based on
the kind of candies and each group will have 5 members.
This grouping will be saved for later activity.

the data?

Abstraction (Critical Thinking) – 10 minutes

(Projected using t-cast app screen casting from android
phone to the television)

In your own understanding class and based also on our Student will raise their hands and wait until the teacher
activity earlier, what is statistics? Anyone? called his/her attention to answer.
(Student will answer based on his/her understanding.)

What is Statistics?
- Statistics refers to the techniques by which data
are collected, presented, organized, analyzed and
interpreted.
- Statistics is an indispensable tool in
understanding the rise and fall of an organization;
the win or lose of a competing team; the success
or failure of a program; etc.

(Teacher’s explanation)
Like in the recent survey we did in the activity part which is
the family survey, we collected data with the students
answering the question, we organized the data when we
tallied the students answers and we analyzed and
interpreted the data when we used it to find out why some
students are performing well or not.

Can you read class, what are the two classification of The classification of statistics is Descriptive and
statistics? Inferential Statistics teacher.

Classification of Statistics

1. Descriptive Statistics
- Deals with the presentation and collection of data.
This is usually the first part of a statistical
analysis.

2. Inferential Statistics
- Involves drawing the right conclusions from the
statistical analysis that has been performed using
the descriptive statistics.

In statistics we always talk about data.

From the song Data, data in the tune of twinkle, twinkle Collect, Analyze, Interpret, and Present.
little star, what do we do to data?

(Projected using t-cast app screen casting from android

phone to the television)
Data
- Data is the numerical values that the variable
assume.

(Teacher’s explanation)
Data is used to describe information mathematically. An
example of that is the Family survey that we have done in
our activity; we have variables such as living with parents,
living with extended family, and separated parents. But
those variables have no numerical value. The data there is
our tally, the number of students that are under these
choices.

Statistics stresses in the analysis and interpretation of

data. The analysis and interpretation of the data may help
many people in their decision makings.
To sum it up, we will need to know what the importance
and purposes of statistics are for everyone.

FUNCTION OR USES OF STATISTICS

1. Statistics helps in improving a better

understanding and exact description of a
phenomenon of nature.
2. Statistics helps in proper and efficient planning
of a statistical inquiry in any field of study.
3. Statistics helps in collecting an appropriate
quantitative data.
4. Statistics helps in presenting complex data in a
suitable tabular, diagrammatic and graphic
form for an easy and clear comprehension of
the data.
5. Statistics helps in drawing valid inferences,
along with a measure of their reliability about
the population parameters from the sample
data

The field of statistics is the science of learning from data.

Statistical knowledge helps us use the proper methods to
collect data, employ the correct analyses, and effectively
present the results. Statistics is a crucial process behind
how we make discoveries in science, make decisions
based on the data and make predictions. Statistics allows
us to understand a subject much more deeply.

Application (Critical Thinking/Problem Solving) – 15 minutes

The groups created at the beginning of the class will be

used in this activity. There are 5 groups in the class.

(The poll will appear

on the screen of the
gadget of the student
being used, the
leader of the group
will vote first after
which the other
members will follow
but they need to
change the google

their vote to be valid
and counted)

(This will appear after the student voted and the teacher
will also monitor and know if all the student responded or
voted to the poll if the total vote will match to the total
number of students which is 25)

After gathering all the data student will proceed to the next
task which is to analyze/understand and then interpret the
result.

TOTAL 20 POINTS
The first presenter will be the Group 1 followed by Group
2,3,4 and the last to present is the Group 5.
Assessment (Critical Thinking/Problem Solving) – 5 minutes
Based on what you understand, answer the question below
in 3 sentences.

1. How can statistics help us? (Student will answer based on what they understand and
2. What are the values of statistics in our life? Give by their own idea.)
at least 2.

Abstraction (Critical Thinking) – 10 minutes

In our daily activities, we encounter a lot of sorting and
organizing objects, data, or things like what you just did
last meeting. These are just few of the activities of doing
Statistics.

What is Statistics?
- It is the branch of mathematics concerned with
collection, organization, presentation, analysis,
and interpretation of numerical data.

Statistical Question
- Is one that can be answered by gathering data
and where the answer can vary.

Example:
- What percent of students are male in the picture?
- What percent of students are female in the
picture?

Did you get it class? Is there any question before we Student raising her hand.
proceed?
Yes, Ms. Madarang. If there is statistical question, is there non-statistical
also?
Very good question Ms. Madarang, It’s a big yes there is a
non-statistical question and the meaning of it are what we
are going to tackle now as the continuation as part of our
lesson for today.

Non-Statistical Question
- This type of question is answerable by only one
answer. You don’t need to gather several points
of data to answer the question.
Example:
- How old are you?
- How many students are in the picture?

DATA
- Data is the numerical values that the variable
assume.

Two types of Data

1. Numerical Data Sets
- are those in numerical form which are either
continuous or discrete.
Example:
-
1.1. Discrete data
- are those that can be counted in a finitely
Example:
- Number of boys and girls in grade 7 per section.
- The result of rolling 3 dice
- The number of books in the shelves

1.2 Continuous data

- are measurements that can take any value from
an is infinite range
Example:
- The heights of grade 7 students
- Age of a persons
- Distance travelled by an airplane overtime.

2. Categorical Data Sets

- is data that can have non-numerical values such
as, colors, information’s or questions by
answerable by YES or NO and labels.
Example:
Colors, labels, etc. (large, medium, or small)

Application (Critical Thinking/Problem Solving) – 15 minutes

Formulate at least 4 statistical questions on the given
problem in order to gather data on it.

Problem:
- On January 20, 2020, the first case of COVID-19
was reported in the Philippines. This event was
followed by the declaration of the COVID-19
outbreak as a global pandemic by the WHO on
March 11, 2020.

Statistical Questions: Possible Statistical Questions:

1. 1. How many people on every province of the
2. country are being infected by the virus, daily?
3. 2. What sectors of the society are severely
4. affected by the pandemic?
3. Among age groups of people in the country who
are most vulnerable to be infected by the virus?
4. How long do people recover from the virus?

Note: It doesn’t need to be word for word as long as the

thought is in there and it shows relatedness to the topic
and most specially it is a statistical question that can be
used in order to gather data on the given problem.
Assessment (Critical Thinking/Problem Solving) – 5 minutes
A. Determine whether the question is a statistical question Answer Key:
or not.
1. What time did I woke up this morning? 1. Non-statistical
2. What are the heights of grade 7 Dalya students? 2. Statistical
3. What were the high temperature of the regions in 3. Statistical
Mindanao yesterday? 4. Non-statistical
4. How old am I? 5. Statistical
5. Do students want face to face classes than online
classes?
Assignment (Critical Thinking)
No more written assignments but please study more and
advanced study the next lesson that we are going to
tackled next meeting. It is all about statistical instruments.

What are Statistical Instruments? What are Statistical Instruments?

- A statistical instrument is any process that aim at - A statistical instrument is any process that
describing a phenomenon by using any tool. It is a aim at describing a phenomenon by using
device used to gather or collect the needed data of a any tool. It is a device used to gather or
study. collect the needed data of a study.

There are different statistical instruments that can be

formulated and used to gather data depending on the needs.
Listed below are some of the statistical instruments.

1. Observation
- it focuses in determining the changes in the attitude,
characteristics and behavior of people or other
subjects. This technique includes watching and
recording actions and behaviours.

2. Interviews
- it is being performed through personally asking
questions to people who have the authority or
expertise to say something about the data needed.
- The person gathering the data is called the
interviewer, while the person supplying the data is the
interviewee.

3. Focus Group Discussion (FGD)

- it is used to know the thinking, feeling or opinion about
a certain phenomenon, idea and etc. FGD is conducted with
a small group of people with common knowledge and
common field (usually 6 to 8 people).

4. Questionnaire
- if you have big number of sample, it is the most
practical way to use. You gather data through writing.
However, you must be careful presenting your
questions, since we need to consider the culture, and
characteristics of the respondents. You may use
email, letter, or personally give your questionnaire to
your respondents. Yes, teacher. We used to encounter as we are
going to give our opinions on a certain topic when
Is there any idea about types of questions? we are discussing in class. Just like this.

Yes, very good point Ms. ______.

Now let’s proceed.

Types of Questions
4.1 Closed questions
- These are questions which can be answered with
“Yes” or “No,” or they have a limited set of possible
answers (such as: A, B, C, or All of the above). For
example, ‘Do you wear glasses?’ the respondent
either does (responding ‘yes’) or doesn’t (responding
‘no’) wear glasses.
4.2 Open-ended questions
- These are questions that allow someone to give a
free-form answer. Example, “How did you answer the
modules?”

4.3 Multiple-choice questions

- These are questions that provide a certain number of
specific response options as possible answers. An
example of multiple-choice question would be:
“How do you spend your free time?”.
a. reading c. surfing the internet
b. listening to radio d. watching TV
e. others (please specify
5. Survey
- in a national level, surveys are usually covered by the
government and other form of surveying organization
such as National Statistics Office (NSO). A survey can
also be done in small scale (i.e. a class of 25 students
can be surveyed)

Okay class we are running out of time. Today we only
