Bringing Families Together ft. Face to Face
Setting:
A cozy Japanese-Filipino restaurant. Two families, one Japanese and one Filipino, meet for
dinner to formally introduce each other before the wedding of their children, Cherry and Jay-r. A
waitress, Ainsley, quietly assists.
Scene 1: The Arrival
(The Filipino family arrives first. Jay-r’s parents, Jeremy and Kristel)
Ainsley (Waitress): Merry Christmas! Welcome! Please, take your seats here
(Korisumasu Omedete! Irassaimase! Kochira ni osuwari kudasai.)
(Kristel, Jeremy and Jay-r proceed to sit.)
Kristel: (Taking her seat) Ay taray! Arigato (imitate the waitress)
Jeremy (Filipino Father): (Nods, smiling) Maraming salamat!
Kristel (Filipino Mother): (Looking around nervously) Nandito na ba sila?
Jay-r: Wala pa [Link] ka lang
(Cherry arrives with her family. Her parents, Janine and Lesterr, and sister, Nova)
Ainsley (Waitress): (Smiling) Welcome! Please, take your seats here
(Irassaimase! Kochira ni o suwari kudasai)
All the Japanese family: Good evening
“Konbanwa!” (Bowing their heads and greeting one by one)
Scene 2: The Introduction
Cherry (Bride): “Everyone, this is my family. My mom, Mekeni, my dad, Goku, and my sister
Alice. It’s nice to finally meet you ma’am and sir. (Magmamano)
Jay-r (Groom): (Smiling, standing up) Good evening. Nice to meet you. (Bow to parents of the
bride)
“ Konbanwa, Hajimemashite”
Cherry: (To her family, in Japanese) Father, mother, this is Jay R and his family
“Otōsan, okāsan, kochira wa Jei R to sono kazoku desu”
Jay R:: I am Jay-R. I am 27 years old. I am from the Philippines. I can speak Nihongo and
English.
“Konbanwa, watashiwa Jay R to moushimasu. Nijuu-nana sai desu. Firipin shusshin desu.
Nihongo to eigo wo hanasu koto ga dekimasu.”
Lesterr (Japanese Father): (Bows slightly) Good evening, nice to meet you. I’m Goku.
“Konbanwa, hajimemashite. Goku desu.”
Janine (Japanese Mother): (Bowing politely) I’m Mekeni, I’m Cherry’s mother. Glad to meet
you..
“Watashi wa Mekeni desu Cherry no haha desu. Dōzo yoroshiku onegaishimasu.”
Nova (Japanese sister): Hello! I am Alice, sister of Cherry.
(Konnichiwa! watashi wa arisu de su,cheriino imouto de su.)
Jay- R: Everyone, this is the family of Cherry
Cherry: Hi, my name is Cherry and I am an accountant by profession.
“Kon'nichiwa, watashi no namae wa cherīdesu. Shokugyō wa kaikeishidesu.”
Kristel: (Shyly, smiling) Glad to meet you.
“ Doozo yoroshiku onegaishimasu.”
Everyone sits down. Ainsley returns to take their orders.
Ainsley (Waitress): Excuse me. Would you like to start with some appetizers
“Sumimasen. Saisho ni appetaizā wa ikaga desu ka?”
Jeremy: Maybe some sushi and lumpia to start?
Lesterr: (Nods approvingly) Yes, sushi sounds good)
“Hai, sushi ga ii desu ne.”
Jeremy: (Attempting to speak in Japanese, smiling warmly)
Yes, we love sushi. It’s very delicious.
“Ee, sushi ga suki desu. Totemo oishii desu.”
Kristel: I am really excited for the wedding of our child.
Lester: (Cleared his throat upon hearing the word wedding and asked Jay R)
So, what do you do for a living?
"Sore de, anata wa shigoto de nani o shiteimasu ka?”
Jay r: I work as an English Teacher, Sir.
“eigo no sensei o shite imasu.”
Lester:(Nod) That's good to hear.
“Sore wa kiite yokatta.”
Ainsley will arrive with the food.
Ainsley: *in japanese* Here's the sushi and lumpia you ordered. Enjoy your food.
“Sushi to runpia ga [Link]!”
Janine: (Gesturing to the dishes) This food looks so beautiful.
“Kono ryōri wa totemo kirei desu ne.”
Kristel: (Nods, smiling) Yes, it’s like a blend of both our cultures.
Jeremy: We wanted to make this dinner special. It’s important to us that both our families feel
like one. We’re honored to welcome Cherry and all of you into our lives.
Lesterr: (Smiling and nodding) We feel the same.
“Watashitachi mo onaji kimochi desu.”
Janine: We are looking forward to visiting the Philippines
“Firipin ni iku no o tanoshimi ni shiteimasu.”
Kristel: (Excitedly) You’re going to love it! The beaches are incredible.
Jeremy: (Raising his glass) For the future of our children!
Lesterr: (Raising his glass) Cheers! “Kanpai”
Everyone: (Smiling and clinking glasses) Kanpai!
Moments later.
Jeremy: It was wonderful meeting you all. We’re really looking forward to the wedding
Janine: (Bowing slightly) It was truly a wonderful evening. Thank you.
“Hontō ni subarashii yoru deshita. Arigatō gozaimasu.”
Kristel: We will go ahead. See you on the wedding of our children.
Lesterr: Yes, we’re looking forward. Please take care.
“Hai, tanoshimi ni shiteimasu. Doozo Odajji ni.
Nova: You go first, mother and father. I will ride with Cherry on the way home.
“Otōsan, okāsan, anata ga saki ni iki ma shou. Kaeri wa cherī to issho ni norimasu.”
Janine and Lesterr bid their goodbyes and left the restaurant.
Good bye
“Sayonara.”
Jay-r: Waiter, bill please
Ainsley: Here it is sir. (Hai, dōzo gozaimasu, goshujin-sama.) (shyly smiling)
Jay-r: (Pays the bill with credit card)
Cherry: I will just use the restroom for a while.
(Cherry exits)
(Kristel and Jeremy will also leave the restaurant)
Kristel: (may tumawag) I'll just answer this call(*exits)
Jeremy: I'll go ahead
(Jay-r and Nova maiiwan sa table. Nova iiyak and ico-comfort ni Jay-r)
Nova: Im so hurt. Why are you marrying her? How about us?
Jay-r: I’m really sorry Alice
“Gomen-nasai, Alice.”
(Maaabutan ni Cherry na magkayakap si Jay-r and Nova)
CONFRONTATION SCENE
Nova: It's not what you think, sister!
(Sore wa anata no kangae to wa chigaimasu, o nēsan)
Cherry: How dare you!? You betrayed me! How long has this been going on?
(Yokumoma)
Jay-r: It's not my intention. I'm sorry
Cherry :Don't make me a fool. Pumili ka! My sister or me?
(papapiliin si Jay-r but then may biglang dadating na babae)
Aly: Je ar, daarin (darling), is that you? What are you doing here in Japan? I thought I’m the one
who will visit you in the Philippines?
(Nova and Cherry magtataka)
Cherry: And who are you?
Aly: I'm his girlfriend.
ANOTHER SAGUTAN NA NAMAN
(Papapiliin kung sino sa 3 pero hindi makaka-decide si Jay-r kaya sasampalin sya)
Cherry: Remember this day! You will never regain my trust.
Nova: Ayaw na kitang maalala!
Aly: You said you’re single! You fooled me!
(Damashita ne!)
(Walkout)
(Mapapaupo si Jay-r at magmomoment. Dadating si Ainsley na may hawak na panyo and
magbibigay ng comforting words)
Ainsley: It seems like you need a handkerchief. Here you go. (Hankachi ga hitsuyou na you desu
ne. Hai, douzo.) *comforts jay-r*
(Exit Ains and Jay-r)
(Enter Janine and Kristel)
FACE TO FACE
Kristel: Hindi po namin layunin na pag-awayin ang mga tao. Sa mga sandaling hindi mapipigilan
ang silakbo ng damdamin, humihingi po kami ng pag-unawa at pasensya. Hangad lang po namin
magserbisyo at tuldukan ang mga suliranin ng pangkaraniwang Pilipino. Maraming salamat po
[Musika]
Kristel: Ayaw pakabog ng init ng panahon kaya naman ang init ng ulo ng mga tao doble. Ang
mga problemang hindi na kailangan pang paabutin sa demandahan, harapin natin Face to Face!

Janine: Hindi raw akalain ni Cherry, ang Japanese fiancée ni Jay-R na hindi lang pala siya ang
nasa puso nito. Hindi dalawa, hindi rin tatlo, kundi apat! Ang lupit mo Jay R!
Narito na, ang mga nagrereklamo, ang mga babae sa buhay ni Je R, Cherry, Alice at Aly. Pasok!

Janine: At naririto na ang, bumighani sa puso ng apat na haponesa, Si Je-R. Kasama nya ang
hindi natin inaakalang pipiliin nya... si Ms. Ainsley.

Janine : At ngayong nandito kayong lahat, maari ba nating tanungin ang panig ng mga
kababaihan kung ano ang nais nilang sabihin kay Jay R.

Cherry: Did you really want to marry me?!
Nova and Aly: You, liar!
Nova: Give me back the Rolex and BMW! How dare you Je Ar!
(Away and sagutan)
*May ibubulong si Kristel kay Janine*
Janine: Nako, may isa pa pala tayong bisita! Ang kagimbal gimbal na rebelasyon. Ang asawa ng
bagong kasintahan ni Je-R! Narito na si Simon!!!
(Entrance Simon)
Simon: (How dare you Je-ar) Yoku mo Je-ar!
(Susugurin si Jay-r)
Simon: Bakit mo sinulot asawa ko? (With Japanese intonation)
(Paghihiwalayin ng bouncers Lesterr and Jeremy)
(Janine cliffhanger)
Janine and Kristel: Nakuuu endless love nga ituu, sinimulan ni Jay R, tatapusin na nga kaya ni
Simon?
