Module 43

MATH
VISUALIZE AND IDENTIFY CONGRUENT LINE
SEGMENTS

A DepEd-BEAM Distance Learning Program supported by the Australian Agency for International Development
To the Learner

The purpose of this module is to achieve familiarity with the

intuitive concept of congruence of geometric figures, particulary as
applied to line segments, and triangles.

Pretest

1. What does this symbol ~

=
mean?
_________________________________________________________.

2. Study these figures. Which of these are congruent?

a. b. c. d.

Write C if the line segments are congruent and NC if not.

3.
S T o p

4.

5. Find the pairs of triangles that are congruent. Name them.

A C

B D

Performance: marks

0–1 marks 2–3 marks 4–5 marks

Learning Activities

Discussion Exercises
Activity 1: Visualizes the concept of congruent line
segments.

Materials: Coconut midribs; ruler; sharp knife.

Instruction:

• Use 2 pieces of coconut midribs.

• Measure 40 centimetres each then cut.
• Put them side by side.

Questions:
1. How many pieces of midrib sticks do you have?
2. How long is each piece?
3. What can you say about their length?

Discussion:

9 Let us represent the two sticks using line segments.

40 cm long 40 cm long

9 We name each using symbol. ( line segment)

AB
~
= CD

To read:

Line segment AB is congruent to line segment CD.

Try This

A. Write YES if the line segments are congruent and NO if not. Use
the figure below.

Given: LM ON
L 14 cm M
7. If the measured of LM is 14 cm, What
is the measure of ON ?
O N

8. How many parallel sides are congruent?

Performance: marks

0–3 marks 4–6 marks 7–8 marks

If you score 7 – 8, you are now ready for the next activity. If not,
find out why you missed there.

Remember

Line Segments are congruent if they have the same length.

Do This

A. Name three pairs of congruent sides.

1. ___________ 2. __________ 3. ___________

E G

H I

4. Which of these are not congruent?

a. b.

5. How many congruent line segments are there?

If you score 4 – 5, move on to Posttest. If you score 3 below,

take set B test.
