Purposive Communication

21 September 2022

Do you agree that Communication and Culture are inseparable?

Culture is defined as a set of knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, customs, and other human

involvement acquired by an individual as a member of the society; the way of life of people.” Wherein,

culture is what brings people closer together. As for communication, it is an element of culture wherein it

acts as a mode of human connection wherein cultural traits are transmitted as well as a tool for individuals

to exchange knowledge and information. To correlate these two factors, that is, communication and culture

are complex and unique. Personally, I agree that communication and culture are inseparable because

culture can serve as the identity and communication serves as the unity among cultures; individuals who

communicate among cultures can identify easily what is being stated and would know the limitations, not

compared to if you spoke with someone with a different culture. We must also bear in mind how our culture

affects what, with whom, and especially how other individuals communicate. However, without

communication, it is impossible to develop a culture, and without culture, communication will be

incomprehensible.
Read Lecture 17. Choose 1 of the 5 items/paragraphs. Do you agree with your chosen paragraph? What

are your thoughts on it?

I choose paragraph 1 as my reference for I agree that communication plays a significant role in the

existence of human life and that no human would survive not communicating with another. In this

paragraph it tackled how communication was first established, especially during the paleolithic era (stone

age) wherein communication was limited to only intra-personal communication and no words, language,

and formality were established, thus, communication with another individual back then would be incredibly

hard since the only way people communicated back then is through gibberish human sounds and many

non-verbal cues. It was established later in the years when language was introduced, and that

communication connected and created bonds among people is when communication had been so

important. Since then, communication was utilized ultimately to create the world we have now; modern

technology, advanced information technology, mass communication, and many more concepts were

expanded to great extent.

My thoughts on the paragraph would include what could have happened if communication were not

properly established and how it would have affected the world today. The way communication was

expanded from one culture to another; communication in culture mainly gives off its identity and offers how

each culture is unique and complex from one another. Without a question, communication is the most

crucial component of our existence since it enables societies and cultures to advance and thrive, yet it is

horrifying to think of a world without it.
