Chapter 4

The Influence of Classroom Competition on Students Socialization and Academic Performance

This chapter presents, interprets and analyzes the data gathered. The data arranged as follows: 1.) Profile of the
Students, a.) Age of the Respondents, b.) Students profile in terms of sex, c.) Average of the Respondents in 1 st semester,
2.)The positive and negative influences of classroom competition on students: a.) socialization, b.) academic
performance, 3.) Possible intervention that can be proposed.

Profile of Grade 11 Students

The profile includes the respondents age , gender, and the average. The information was gathered through the help
of the set of questionnaire.

Age: The table above shows the age of the respondents of this study. As shown in the table no.1 , the age rangers of the
respondents are from 16 years old to 19 years old. According to the result of the survey ,the researchers identified that
most of their respondents are 17 years old followed by 16 years old, next is 18 and last is 19 years old.

Sex: One of the contents of the survey questionnaire that was used in this study was all about the profile of the
respondents . And according to the result, the researchers identified that most of their respondents were females which
had a total number of 17, while ,there were 6 males in this study.

Average: The table above shows the average of the respondents in 1st semester in this research study. According to the
result of the survey ,the researchers identified that ranges of their respondents are from 89 and 90, followed by 87 ,next
is 88, 91 ,92 and last is 93.

The negative and positive influences of classroom competition on students academic performances: With 23
respondents of this study, 18 of the respondents said that students academic performances will improve is the
influence of classroom competition in terms of academic performance. While 17 of them said that competitive learning
will happen performance will improve. Next is 15 of them said that the influence of classroom competition is the
students will engage to self study. Then 11 of them said that the students will have a good or high grades , 7 of them
said that students will engage to multi tasking due to limited time, 6 of the respondents said that students will
understand more the lesson or topic, and lastly is 5 of them said that students may have trouble in performing tasks or
activities.

The positive and negative influences of classroom competition on students socialization : Based on the survey
conducted by the researchers in Grade 11 Responsibility of Abuyog National High School , 16 out of 23 said that the
influence of classroom competition on students socialization is the students socialization skill will enhance. While 14 of
them said that thinking that they will commit a mistakes is the influence of classroom competition in terms of
socialization. 13 of them said that it is one help for development of good relationship with peers, 12 of them said that
fear of speaking in front of the class or public speaking is the influence, next is 11 of them said that there are more
interactions with their classmates, and lastly 10 of them said that discouragement or low self esteem is the influence of
classroom competition on students socialization.

The possible intervention that can be proposed: Based on the result of the survey ,17 out 23 said that the possible
intervention that can be proposed is teacher should have an fairly treatment to the students. While 12 of them said that
the students must allow to work together in groups to complete tasks. Next is 8 of them said that the question should
be easily understood by everybody inside the classroom , then 6 of them said that create team competitions to
complete activities or projects and have students track their progress on a leaderboard, and lastly ,and lastly 3 of them
said that orientation that tackled about classroom competition is the possible intervention that can be proposed base on
on the study.
