Understanding Nodes, Branches, and Loops

In an electrical circuit, a Node is a connection point where two or more current-carrying elements meet. A Branch represents the path between two nodes that includes a circuit element, while a Loop is a closed path formed by branches that does not revisit any element or node. These concepts are fundamental to understanding circuit design and analysis.

NODES

The term Node in an electrical circuit generally refers to a

connection or junction of two or more current carrying paths or
elements such as cables and components.

A Node in an electric circuit is defined as a point through which an

electric circuit element is connected. A junction where 2 or
more elements connect is called a node.

Branch in an Electric Circuit

A branch in an electric circuit is defined as a path between two

nodes in a circuit where a circuit element (resistor, capacitor,
galvanometer, etc.) is connected.
Branches are the connections between nodes.

Loop in an Electric Circuit

A loop is any closed path of an electric circuit formed by branches.

A simple closed path in a circuit in which no circuit element or node is

encountered more than once.
