name’s Hue and I’m a member of class 22DTAA2. I’d like to talk today about
Vietnamese secondary schools’s violence. I’ve divided this talk into 4 main parts.
First is the current situation, second is the causes and consequences, third is the
solutions and finally is the conclusion. My talk only take 20 minutes of your time. If

an opportunities to discuss issues at greater length after my talk

you think school violence occurs most?

Okay, let's start exploring today's topic, which I want to introduce is school violence
in middle schools in Vietnam. The content of the presentation consists of four parts:
first is the current situation, second is the causes and consequences, third is the
solutions, and finally, the conclusion.

First, let’s talk about the current situation of school violence. School violence refers to
acts like bullying, physical abuse, and other intentional behaviors that harm the
physical or mental well-being of students within educational settings. While it’s not a
new phenomenon, school violence has been on the rise recently, occurring more
frequently and becoming more severe, particularly in middle schools. According to
statistics from the 2022–2023 academic year, Vietnam recorded 27 cases of school
violence, including: • 3 cases in elementary schools, • 17 cases in middle schools, and
• 7 cases in high schools.

-->This shows that the rate of school violence occurs most frequently among high
school students.

Next, let's explore the cases of school violence.

+The first case is physical violence, which involves acts that directly harm another
person’s body through the use of strength or physical force.

+ The second case is mental violence, which involves actions that hurt another
person’s mental health, emotions, or dignity. This can include behaviors like
mocking, discriminating, or shaming someone through words, attitudes, or actions.

+Lastly, there is cyberbullying, which refers to intentional and repeated harmful

actions conducted through electronic devices such as computers, phones, social
media, emails, forums, websites, or other online platforms. For example, sending
messages to spread false, vulgar rumors, or sharing images, videos, and posts meant
to harm or humiliate others.

Next, let’s discuss the causes and consequences of school violence. Based on the
current situation, three main causes can be identified:

Firstly, the students themselves. According to a report by the Vietnam Institute of

Educational Sciences, most cases of school violence involve students in their final
years of middle school. This is an age where significant psychological and
physiological changes occur, leading to impulsive behavior, a desire to prove oneself,
and vulnerability to peer influence. At this stage, negative external influences can
easily lead to imitation and aggressive actions.

Secondly, family and societal factors. Parents are the most influential figures in
shaping a child’s personality and character. However, many parents today resort to
scolding or physical punishment when their children make mistakes, fostering
aggressive tendencies in their [Link] society, middle school students are susceptible
to evils such as playing around and getting into trouble. This is because they are at a
rebellious age, often characterized by a dependence on and trust in friends or adults.
This makes them more vulnerable to being manipulated or influenced by bad actors,
such as being incited to bully or attack their peers

Lastly, the school environment. Many schools focus heavily on delivering academic
knowledge but sometimes neglect the mission of character education. A lack of
proper supervision and management from teachers and administrators contributes to
the problem. Furthermore, some teachers use punitive or violent measures as
discipline, setting a poor example for students.

This leads to several consequences.

First, regarding physical health, students affected by school violence often suffer
physical injuries, and in severe cases, these injuries can pose a threat to their lives.
As for mental health, violence negatively impacts students’ psychological well-
being, causing fear, anxiety, insecurity, frustration, and lasting trauma.
Academically, Students who are victims of violence often tend to be unable to
concentrate on their studies, feel fearful when attending class, which leads to a decline
in their academic performance.

--->From the above consequences, we can see that the most serious impact of school
violence is psychological, particularly anxiety and suicidal tendencies. Looking at this
chart, it shows statistics on children aged 11-15 who are middle school students
affected by school violence. The data indicates that in 2022, 18.6% of students
experienced anxiety, and 1.4% had suicidal thoughts. Furthermore, in 2023, the
percentage of students accounted to 44%, while those with suicidal intentions
accounted for 18%. This clearly illustrates that school violence is having a significant
and increasing impact on middle school students.

From this, I would like to propose solutions to address the above consequences.

+ For individual students, it is essential to enhance conflict resolution skills, such as

solving conflicts without resorting to violence. Actively participating in volunteer
activities organized by the school can help foster kindness and goodwill in students.

+For families, parents should create a safe and loving environment, avoiding using
violence to discipline their children. It is important to listen to and support children in
solving school-related issues.

+For schools, the school environment should be safe, with clear codes of conduct
and an effective system for addressing violence. Schools should also strengthen moral
education programs and life skills training, while providing psychological counseling
services for students when needed.

+For society, we need to encourage everyone to participate in building a safe school

environment by organizing drawing contests on the theme of anti-school violence or
using media and social networks to promote and educate on how to handle conflicts in
a civilized, non-violent manner. In addition, social organizations need to implement
programs to prevent school violence in schools and work closely with relevant
authorities to address incidents of violence in a timely manner.

SUMMARY :
School violence in middle schools in Vietnam is becoming a pressing issue. It stems
from students, families, and society. These violent actions have caused significant
psychological and emotional harm to many students, affecting their mental well-being
and academic performance. Therefore, it is crucial for all of us to actively contribute
to raising awareness and combatting school violence to protect the education
environment in Vietnam.

In conclusion, school violence originates from various aspects of society and greatly
impacts the development of young people. Although this situation is increasing and
tends to worsen, if we understand the causes, we can prevent it. Therefore, we should
communicate and share more with each other rather than resorting to violence. Each
person must learn lessons from their own experiences, live meaningfully, and resolve
conflicts through dialogue and negotiation, not through physical confrontation.
Moreover, let’s love and support each other, ensuring that school violence becomes a
thing of the past!
