Before we proceed any

further, let us first define
the word referral.

Referral is one of the

guidance services where
learners are facilitated to
avail other assistance or
services that address
their mental health and
other concerns.

Referral requires a range

of strong and consistent
collaboration with
internal and external
partners, professionals,
fields and interests.

professional license, so
in this context, how
should a referral be done
among guidance
designates and how
would boundaries
delineate how we should
function in the field.

The Department of
Education in its policy
statement reiterates that
as practitioners in the
field who are directly
dealing with clients,
such as our learners, we
should ensure the
systematic procedure of
counseling and referral
of learners in public
schools and guide all
public schools and
governance levels in the
implementation of
counseling and referral
processes and other
support mechanisms
that would support

program

Why refer? Slide 61-62

As a teacher and a
guidance designate,
when a learner begins to
manifest observable
behaviors that are
worsening or may have
been showing signs and
symptoms of a struggle
in some areas of his or
her development, you
know exactly that these
manifestations can be
addressed and mitigated
so that future problems
may be prevented. This
is where the concept of
referral sets in as
guidance service.

The Department of
Education has already
established a
mechanism of
counseling and referral
