Using the Fiery X3e System Software Service Kit
System software
The Fiery X3e system software is installed on the HDD (hard disk drive) at the factory.
You will need to install system software if a more recent version is required, if you replace
the HDD, or if you discover problems with the current system. You can install all system
software over the LAN port, the USB port (see following), or using a USB flash drive
(see page 6).
After you install the system software, follow the procedure on page 13 to install the
[Link] and [Link] update files that are located on the system software
update CD.
System software installation reminders
When installing system software, keep in mind the following:
• Fonts—Installing system software deletes all the fonts that the customer has installed
on the Fiery X3e. Only resident fonts are restored during system software installation.
Fiery Downloader can be used to reinstall additional fonts.
To determine which additional fonts were downloaded to the Fiery X3e, print a
Font List before you format the HDD, and again after you complete system software
installation. Any fonts not listed after installation must be reinstalled. For more
information, see Utilities.
• Language—Screens for installing system software are always displayed in English, even
if the print engine is configured for another language.
• Compatibility—The latest user software must be installed on all computers that print
to the Fiery X3e. Using incompatible versions of the system and user software may
result in system problems.

Printing Fiery X3e pages
Printing Fiery X3e pages
The Control Panel allows you to print special pages that are included in the Fiery X3e
system software. These pages reside on the Fiery X3e HDD and include the Test Page,
Configuration page, Job Log, Control Panel Map, and Font List.
Printing the Configuration page
The Configuration page lists all the settings in effect from the current Setup. After
you finish running Setup, print a Configuration page to confirm your settings. If the
Fiery X3e is rebooting, allow the Fiery X3e to reboot and return to Idle before printing
a Configuration page.
Before you perform any service procedure, print a Configuration page so that you are
prepared to return the settings to their former configurations, if required.
After the connection to the network is made, the site administrator can customize Setup
options according to the network and user environment. Using the Configuration page
as a guide can help speed up this process. For more information, see Configuration and
Setup.

1. Make sure the Fiery X3e is Idle and temporarily remove any dongle attached to the
Fiery X3e.
2. Load the System Software Update CD on a Windows PC that can print to the Print Server
and has Command WorkStation installed.
3. Start Command WorkStation and connect to the Print Server.
If you experience any problems, make sure Setup is configured properly.
4. Choose Import Job from the File menu.
5. In the Logical Printer field, select the “direct” connection type.
If you are unable to select the connection type, check with the person responsible for
configuring Network Setup to make sure the direct connection is enabled in Setup
(see Configuration and Setup).
6. Navigate to the location of the CD and select the update file. Click Add.
7. Click Import.
Wait until the Fiery X3e downloads the file and reaches Idle before you proceed.
The duration of this step varies according to the size of the file.
8. After the Fiery X3e reaches idle, reboot the Fiery X3e. Allow the system to reach Idle.
Using the Fiery X3e LCD, choose Shut Down from the Functions menu, and then
choose Reboot System. If the Fiery X3e does not have an LCD, see the Installation and
Service Guide for instructions on how to reboot the system properly.
9. Remove the CD from the Windows PC.
10. Print a Configuration page and verify that the Update Information section includes the
name of the update file (the file name appears without the .ps extension).
