Vidisha: Karen Youakim, an 18-year-old individual of the UAE spent the first few years of her life as
an ordinary girl. Once she turned 8, her parents noticed that she couldn't hear them clearly or
respond promptly. Over the next six months, she stopped hearing in both ears completely. When
COVID- 19 pandemic struck, Karen struggled upon returning to school with everyone wearing masks.
As someone who depended on lip reading, communication became frustrating and isolating.

Samantha: Now, 430 million people globally face the same challenges that Karen encountered.
Additionally, there is a population of 7 million people born mute. To be able to merely communicate,
they learn ASL (American Sign Language). 1 in 3 people, grow deaf after 65 years of age. Many of
these individuals struggle to learn ASL at an old age. ASL, takes a minimum of 3 years to learn, but
how many of us here today know sign language and would take those 3 years to learn? It ultimately
causes our youth to struggle with the social, work, and school environment

Soham: And this is exactly why we built Hearo. Hearo comprises of two integrated models: the Hearo
Pocket, which is portable and translates motion to audio, and the Hearo Smart Assistant, which
employs AI to translate sign language into text. Both models provide a comprehensive solution for
overcoming communication challenges.

Daiwik: First, let me introduce the Hearo Pocket. This model utilizes the Lego Mindstorms EV3,
detecting angles with a gyroscope. The EV3 Brick processes the input, and we've coded it using the
Mindstorms app. It's simple: tilt the gyroscope at an angle, press the button, and the EV3 Brick
speaks the corresponding word.

Next, we have the Hearo Smart Assistant. This model leverages AI through Google Teachable
Machine to understand ASL gestures and convert them into written language. Together, Hearo Pocket
and Hearo Smart Assistant provide a comprehensive solution to enhance daily communication for
the verbally challenged.

Samantha: Now, to test the impact of our product, we have tried it with a student from our very own
school. The special individuals name is Sree Sai. He’s currently in Grade 5. He has a difficulty with his
speech. Unable to communicate with his pairs, he often gets overwhelmed.

Soham: For our market strategy, we will be following the Business to Business strategy through
online marketing and advertising through My Ad Center by Google. Additionally, we will be using the
Business to Business to Customer strategy.
Hearo Pocket and Hearo Smart Assistant are sold as a package, with Hearo Smart Assistant (app) at a
one-time purchase of 20 AED bringing the total selling price to 350 AED.

Daiwik: With thought, we have laid out phase 1 of our financial plan: the cost of each package will be
set at 350 AED. Initially targeting the deaf and mute population of the UAE, after selling to each
individual we will make a revenue of 147 million AED, which will give us a profit of 84 million Dhs.

Rayna: So, what is it that truly sets us apart from anything else in the market? Well, Hearo Pocket is
pretty small sized and Hearo Smart Assistant is functional at the click of a button, which makes it
portable and comfortable for the user. Hearo, being one of a kind, deciphers a distinctive language
within a matter of seconds.
Vidisha:

Samantha: The only thing that deaf and mute can’t do is hear and speak; they have the same
abilities and skills as others but are denied higher education and employment. With Hearo used not
only in schools but even work environments and for every day communication, restrictions between
fellow students, friends and family is broken.

Vidisha: From 3 years to just 3 seconds, connecting everyone. WITH HEARO!!!!! (emphasize)

Q&A:
1. How long will it take for the people to learn the different angles hard coded for different words?
2. Do you think people will pay that amount?
3. Bro how will u fit many words in the gyroscope like angles not enough bro.
4. How will you work towards including other languages?
5. How will others communicate with deaf people without having to learn sign language?
6. Is there a similar product available in market? Have you done research and how is it different from
your project?

One minute pitch :

At this moment there are around 360 million people who have hearing impairment and 800,000
people born mute, globally; facing the very same challenges Helen Keller did. As a result, they learn a
form of sign language called ASL (American Sign Language). ASL, however, takes 3 years to learn-
which causes our youth to struggle with society, work, and school.

And this is why we have created Hearo, which helps verbally challenged individuals to break the
communication barriers that they face in their day-to-day life. It uses the gyroscope to detect the
angle, the push button for convenience, and the EV3 Brick.
In order to make it, we used the Mindstorms app to code the brick. Using it is simple, you just have
to tilt the gyroscope at an angle and with the push of a button, the Ev3 Brick we say the
corresponding word to the angle.

Thinking further and making our product more convenient, we have established a prototype with the
help of Google Teachable Machine. This part of our product uses AI to understand ASL gestures and
converts them into spoken language.

and our analysis of what makes us unique.
