Name:

Kindergarten
Teachers: Mrs. Perla B. Basilla
Ms. Mary Ingrid J. Espares
Objective:
Identify Number bonds up to 10.
Recognize that numbers can be split into smaller parts (e.g., 5 is made
of 3 and 2).
Demonstrating an understanding of how two numbers can combine to
make a whole.

Timmy and Tina’s Apples

Once upon a time, there were two children named Timmy

and Tina. They lived in a big and spacious farm, they loved
collecting apples.
One sunny morning, while they
were walking around the farm they
found a big basket of apples under
their tree.

Timmy counted the apples. “Look

Tina! We have 6 apples!” he
squeaked excitedly.

“But I wonder,” said Tina, “how

can we share them?”
Timmy thought for a moment. “Well, I’ll take 4 apples,”
he said. “You can have the rest!”

Tina counted the apples left in the basket. “If you

take 4, then I’ll have 2 apples!” she cheered.

“So, 4 apples for me, and 2 apples for you--

together we still have 6 apples!” Timmy said happily.

The next day, they found more apples. This time they
had 5 apples.

“How will we share these, Tina?” Timmy asked.

Tina smiled. “How about this time, I take 3 apples,

and you take 2? That’s still 5 apples altogether!”

And so, every time they found apples, Timmy and Tina
found different ways to share them. Sometimes Timmy
took more, and sometimes Tina did, but they always knew
that together, their apples made the same total.

Number Bonds
Are like a way of showing how two smaller
numbers can join together to make a
bigger number.

For example, think of the number 6. We can make 5 by

putting together 5 and 1. So, 5 and 1 are part of 6.

Let’s try another one.

When putting together numbers, think of it like its a

puzzle! We need to fit two pieces (numbers) together to
make the whole.

Now try using your fingers. Hold up 4 fingers on your left

hand and 2 fingers on your right. How many fingers are up
in total?

and

That’s another example of number bond: 4 and 2 make 6!

Note: If you’re child is still having a hard time understanding Number bonds, try using
objects, manipulatives, pictures, and examples from everyday life (like fingers or toys)
to make it easier for them to grasp the concept.
