Every day on TV we watch stories and news about the worst atrocities against human beings committed by other human beings. Unfortunately, problems like discrimination, terrorism, domestic violence or racism are still common worldwide. Human Rights are constantly being violated. Are all humans born free and equal?
Task
1. You are going to work in a group (3/4 students). Form your group and then choose one of the following Human Rights violations and create a pamphlet (Microsoft publisher)/ video / powerpoint presentation/ prezi about it: y y y y y y y Child soldiers; Child labour; Terrorism; Human trafficking; Extreme poverty; Domestic violence; Genocide; y y y y y y y War crimes; Racism; Famine; Religious or political persecution; Torture; Xenophobia; Freedom of expression.
2. Describe the human rights violation you have chosen. Say why your group feels this issue is an important one to bring to our attention (What is the importance of this issue to the world?). 3. Research the following websites to find an example of a situation in which human rights are currently being violated (or were violated in the past). Write a narrative description of this situation in your pamphlet/video/powerpoint presentation/prezi. Try to "hook"* your reader/listener with this story. Your goal is to make your reader/listener so concerned about the issue of human rights that they will be motivated to take action against human rights abuses. Also, create or copy pictures, charts, or maps to accompany this story. For example, you could include photographs of victims of this violation of human rights, charts listing statistics of how many people have suffered from this violation of human rights, and/or maps of the region in the world where this violation of human rights is taking place (or took place). Find an organization that is involved in trying to stop this human rights violation, if possible. 6. Say what people should do to combat this violation. 7. Finally, write your personal conclusion about this topic.
