In the 21st century, the emergence of rapid technological advancement in society has
greatly affected the global economic system, such as globalization. Globalization is a
global phenomenon wherein cross-border countries trade goods, services, technology,
and information. However, it is not limited to trading; it includes a more connected
relationship of countries that aim to achieve a greater competitive status. After a
thorough understanding and evaluation of the topic, it has come to my mind that
globalization is one of the best occurrences that has happened to further and help
people in attaining connectedness and greater good.
It is in the human mind that historically speaking, people were having a hard time in
terms of buying and selling items that are of great importance, yet through globalization
there is a fall of trade barriers, which allows the society to exchange freely and easily.
Such as when import and export took place, many countries, including the Philippines,
participated in this global exchange. Opportunities such as learning different norms and
cultures are the positive results of an interdependent world economy. Taking into
account the experiences of most teenagers who are now K-POP fans, some of them
started knowing Koreans from products that were imported to the Philippines. In a
matter of time they adapted and learnt their cultures, which made them fans, and that is
just because of globalization. Business also took advantage of the emergence of
globalization. Most companies enjoy the benefit of a lowered overall cost structure since
they can save from labor, energy, and capital. For me this is beneficial for all
companies, since avoiding cost and appraising profit is what they do. More so, they can
offer multiple products, which means the more products they offer, the wider the target
market they could get.
I also learned and finally know where and how globalization started. First is in the
Prehistoric Period. In this earliest phase of globalization, contacts among hunters and
gatherers who were spread around the world were geographically limited. In this period,
due to the absence of advanced forms of technology, globalization was severely limited.
The second period is the pre-modern period. In this period, the invention of writing and
the wheel were great social and technological boosts that moved globalization to a new
level. The third one is the Early Modern Period, which is the period between the
Enlightenment and the Renaissance. In this period, the European Enlightenment project
tried to achieve a universal form of morality and law. The fourth period is the Modern
Period. In this period, innovations and communication technology, population explosion,
and an increase in migration led to more cultural exchanges and transformation in
traditional social patterns. And lastly, the contemporary period: the creation, expansion,
and acceleration of worldwide interdependencies occurred in a dramatic way, and it was
a kind of leap in the history of globalization. Aside from the historical periods of
globalization, I also know and am able to understand the six dimensions of
globalization. It includes economic, political, technological, cultural, and ecological
factors. So those dimensions mentioned are all about the growth and how globalization
impacts and drives those six dimensions. Lastly, we can say that the process of
globalization has involved and transformed all the countries in the world by connecting
economies, cultures, and societies like never before.
