Research Methodology for Educational Study

Chapter 3 outlines the research methodology, including ethics, design, sampling methods, data collection instruments, and analysis procedures. The study employs a descriptive research design with a mixed-methods approach, utilizing surveys and questionnaires to gather data from Grade 10 and Grade 11 learners at Alejo M. Pacalso Memorial National High School. Data analysis involves both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess the availability and functionality of computer system servicing equipment.

Chapter 3

Research Methodology

This chapter presents the research ethics, research design, sampling methods, data collection
instruments and procedure, and data analysis.

Research Ethics

The researchers adhered to ethical principles throughout the study to ensure the protection and
privacy of participants.

Research Design

The study adopts a descriptive research design, which allows for the systematic collection, analysis,
and presentation of data regarding the condition and adequacy of computer system servicing equipment.
Descriptive research is ideal in this case because it focuses on providing a detailed picture of the CSS
laboratory setup and determining whether the equipment meets educational standards.

The use of surveys and questionnaires enables the researchers to collect quantitative and
qualitative data, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of participants’ perceptions. This mixed-methods
approach ensures that the responses reflect both numerical insights and subjective opinions from users
and administrators of the laboratory.

According to Creswell (2014), descriptive research offers flexibility, allowing researchers to capture
the complexities of real-life contexts. This design is particularly appropriate for educational settings like
AMPMNHS because it helps identify areas of improvements, recognizes successes, and suggest
actionable recommendations.

Sampling

This part contains the details of the process which will be undertaken during the study.

Table 1 shows the respondents of the research study

Total enumeration was used in the study, hence this research will cater all the Grade 11 and Grade
10 learners of Alejo M. Pacalso Memorial National High School as the repondents
Data Collection Procedure
The data collection procedure for this study was structured into several stages to ensure
thoroughness and reliability. Initially, in the Pre-Survey Preparations stage, the research team defined
clear objectives, designed the survey instrument, and conducted a pilot test to refine questions. Next,
during Survey Distribution, the survey was shared with participants through accessible channels,
ensuring that all respondents could easily complete it within the allotted time. Following this, the Data
Collection stage involved actively gathering responses, monitoring participation rates, and addressing any
technical issues encountered by respondents. Finally, a Follow-Up phase was conducted, reaching out to
non-respondents and clarifying incomplete or ambiguous answers to enhance the dataset's completeness
and accuracy. Each stage was aimed at maximizing response quality and ensuring the data truly reflected
participants’ insights and experiences.
Data Collection Instrument
The primary instruments used in this study were surveys and questionnaires. Surveys were
structured to collect quantitative data regarding the availability, functionality, and quality of the laboratory
equipment, while open-ended questions in the questionnaires aimed to gather qualitative insights on user
experiences.
The questionnaires included the following sections:
Demographic Information - Collecting basic information about participants (e.g., role, year level
for students, or job position for staff). Equipment Availability – Asking participants to rate the sufficiency of
computers, networking tools, and other lab devices. Functionality and Suggestions – Assessing the working
condition of the equipment. User Experience and Suggestions – Gathering qualitative feedback about any
challenges faced and recommendations for improvement. The questions were developed based on
educational equipment standards from DepEd Memorandum No. 90, s. 2017, which outlines the required
tools for technical and vocational education.

Data Analysis
The collected data were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods.
Quantitative Analysis
Responses to closed-ended questions were encoded and analyzed using descriptive statistics, such
as frequencies, means, and percentages, to summarize the data. This analysis provided insights into the
general trends in equipment availability and conditions.

To determine the overall computer system servicing skills and knowledge competency, we used a 4-
point scale to achieve an optimum result as shown in table 1 and 2. Thus, breaking it down to the following
relative values.
Table 1
