How Students Can Use the Rubric for Peer Review:

1. Score Each Criterion: Assign a score from 1 to 5 for each criterion.
2. Provide Comments:
Topic & Main Idea
 Positive Comment (Excellent/Good):
o Your topic is very clear, and the paragraph stays focused on describing the train
perfectly. The main idea is easy to understand.
4

o I liked how your paragraph had a clear topic, but you could make the topic
sentence a bit stronger to grab attention.
 Constructive Suggestion (Satisfactory/Needs Improvement):
o Your topic is clear, but the main idea feels a little scattered. Try to focus more on
one key aspect, like the train's interior.
o It’s hard to tell what the main idea is. Consider starting with a stronger topic
sentence that introduces the train’s importance.
Descriptive Details
 Positive Comment (Excellent/Good):
o You used excellent sensory details like ‘flickering lights’ and ‘peeling
advertisements.’ It really paints a picture!
o The description is good, especially the part about the scuffed floors. Adding more
sensory details, like smell or sound, could make it even better.
 Constructive Suggestion (Satisfactory/Needs Improvement):
o There are some details, but they feel general. Try adding more sensory words
(e.g., how it smells, sounds, or feels) to make the scene vivid.
o The description is minimal, and it’s hard to imagine the scene. Focus on specific
details, like the train’s seats or lighting.
Organization
 Positive Comment (Excellent/Good):
o Your paragraph flows smoothly from the exterior of the train to the interior. The
transitions between ideas are clear.
o The organization is good, but some transitions could be smoother. For example,
you could connect the description of the seats to the walls more naturally.
 Constructive Suggestion (Satisfactory/Needs Improvement):
o The sentences feel disconnected. Try using transition words like ‘next’ or ‘in
addition’ to link ideas together.
o The structure is unclear. You could organize the paragraph by describing the
outside first and then moving inside.
Vocabulary
 Positive Comment (Excellent/Good):
5

o Great use of descriptive words like ‘metallic’ and ‘sterile.’ It really helps me
picture the train.
o Your word choice is appropriate, but you used ‘dim light’ twice. Try varying your
vocabulary to keep it interesting.
 Constructive Suggestion (Satisfactory/Needs Improvement):
o Some words, like ‘utilitarian,’ might be too advanced or unclear for readers.
Consider simpler alternatives like ‘useful.’
o The vocabulary feels repetitive, and some words don’t fit well. Try using a
thesaurus to find more precise words.
Grammar & Mechanics
 Positive Comment (Excellent/Good):
o Your grammar is very strong, with almost no mistakes. I noticed just one small
error with punctuation, but it doesn’t affect understanding.
o There are a few minor errors, but overall, your grammar is clear and easy to
follow.
 Constructive Suggestion (Satisfactory/Needs Improvement):
o You have a few grammar mistakes, like tense shifts between past and present. Try
to keep the tense consistent throughout the paragraph.
o There are several grammar and spelling errors that make some sentences hard to
understand. Reread your work carefully or use a grammar-checking tool.
Creativity & Engagement
 Positive Comment (Excellent/Good):
o Your paragraph is very engaging! I loved how you made the train feel like an
important part of the city’s daily life.
o Your writing is creative, but adding a unique detail, like a memorable sound or
smell of the train, could make it even more engaging.
 Constructive Suggestion (Satisfactory/Needs Improvement):
o The paragraph is descriptive, but it feels a little flat. Try adding something
surprising or unique to capture the reader’s interest.
o The writing is plain and doesn’t stand out. Think about how you can make the
description more exciting or personal.
6

Sample Overall Feedback (Combining All Aspects)

 You did a great job describing the train’s appearance and importance! Your topic is clear,
and the details help me imagine the scene. However, the organization could be smoother,
and some sentences could use transition words. Also, watch out for tense changes and
repetitive words. Adding more sensory details, like smells or sounds, would make it even
more engaging.
3. Total Score: Add the scores and share them with the writer. Provide specific feedback to
help them improve

Narrative Paragraph
Instructions:
1. Choose Your Moment:
Reflect on your life and select a moment that has had a lasting impact. This could be a
personal achievement, a life-changing experience, or a turning point that made you grow
or see the world differently.
2. Focus on Details:
Use sensory details (what you saw, heard, felt, smelled, or tasted) to bring the moment to
life. Create a vivid picture for your reader, helping them feel like they were there with
you.
3. Structure Your Story:
o Introduction:
Start by briefly introducing the moment. What made it memorable? Set the scene
for your reader.
o Body:
Describe the event in detail. What happened, who was involved, and what were
your thoughts or feelings during the moment? Highlight how you overcame
challenges or felt transformed by the experience.
o Conclusion:
Reflect on how this moment has shaped you. What lessons did you learn? How
did this experience change you, or what do you carry forward from it?
7

4. Use Dialogue (Optional):

If applicable, include dialogue to show how others interacted with you during the event.
This adds depth to the narrative.
5. Make it Personal:
Your voice and emotions should come through in the writing. Let your reader connect
with the experience by showing, not just telling, how this moment was meaningful.

Narrative Paragraph
Example (based on my experience)
Growing up, I was the shy kid who barely spoke. I hid behind my books, excelling in
class and consistently taking the top rank, but communication felt like an insurmountable wall.
Everything shifted when I was chosen to compete in the Lomba Pemasyarakatan dan
Pembudayaan Pancasila (LP2P4), a prestigious national event promoting the philosophy of
Pancasila. I joined the P4 simulation category, where we had to analyze real-life problems
through the lens of Pancasila, laws, and societal norms.

The preparation was grueling. I devoured books on Pancasila and legal regulations, my
nights spent with them as my faithful companions. My coach saw my potential but also my
glaring weakness—my inability to speak confidently. "Knowledge alone isn’t enough," he told
me, and so began an intense journey. He drilled me tirelessly, teaching me how to organize my
thoughts, modulate my voice, and deliver my ideas with clarity and conviction. Smiling, even
when nerves threatened to paralyze me, became my shield. Late into the night, I would ride my
motorbike home, the cool night air brushing against my face as I passed silent streets where the
city had already fallen into slumber. The stillness of the empty roads felt like a world apart from
the whirlwind of effort and determination I carried within me.

Looking back, I owe so much to my coach. He didn’t just see my strengths and
weaknesses—he believed in my potential and fought with unwavering patience to help me
perfect my skills and conquer my fears. His relentless encouragement and guidance turned me
into someone I never thought I could be. He taught me not just how to win, but how to grow. I
often think about how he changed my life and how much I want to follow in his footsteps. One
day, I hope to inspire and guide others the way he inspired me, helping them find their voice and
believe in themselves.

Finally, the day came. My hands trembled as I stepped onto the stage, but I held on to the
countless hours of preparation. I spoke with a confidence I never knew I had, and when they
announced my name as the winner—district, province, and eventually national level—it felt
surreal. The prize money allowed me to buy my first motorbike, but the real reward was
14

something far greater. That moment broke the chains of my shyness and gave me a voice, a
confidence, and a belief in myself that I carry to this day. It wasn’t just a competition; it was the
moment I became the person I was always meant to be.
