Management of Information Technology

Time: Three Hours Maximum Marks: 100


Note:
1. The paper is divided into three sections: Section A, Section B and Section C.
2. There are seven questions in Section A of 10 marks each. Attempt any four.
3. Section B has 5 questions of 15 marks each. Attempt any three.
All the questions of Section C (Case Study) are compulsory. This section is of 15 marks

Marks will be awarded for right procedure also in numerical questions.

Section -A

1: What is information system? Explain the resources of information system with suitable
diagram. What are the benefits of information system? (2+6+2)

2: (a) What is the need of information system for an organization? Explain it (5)
(b) Define the distributed system. What are features of distributed system? (5)

3: What do you mean by SDLC? Define the all phases of SDLC with neat diagram. (3+7)

4: Define the term leader. Explain why leaders and managers both are required for an
organization? What are the roles of leadership in IT organization? (2+5+3)

5: Define the concept of DSS. What are the characteristics of DSS? Explain the various levels of
DSS with suitable diagram. (2+3+5)

6: Why ‘People’ is considered as important resources for an organization? What points to


consider while managing the technology in organization? (4+6)

7: Define term Group Support System. Explain the components of GSS. What are the various
factors affect GSS? (2+3+5)

Section -B

1: Explain the different types of information system and its features with suitable diagram.

2: Describe the concepts and objectives of information system planning. Explain the strategic
information system planning methodologies with suitable diagram. (6+9)

4: Define the concept of work environment. What are the different types of environment that the
employee needs in an organization? Explain the process of organization redesigning with

Section –C
To increase the effectiveness of information system at GHPD, the division acquired ten personal
computers which were networked with the regional offices. The services of computer
professionals were hired to develop the information system for the division. The division was
overburdened with the work of processing the supply orders & it took about 5-7 days to dispatch
a supply after receipt of an order.
The newly-developed computerized information system in January 2009 & it stared providing
information to all the managers of GHPD. However, within a period of six months, the Vice
President (GHPD) got frustrated with the system & ultimately discarded it. When he could not
get any help from the developers of the system, he decided to invite a consultant from a leading
management institution in India to suggest a solution to the problem.
(i) Why did the Vice President (GHPD) get frustrated with newly-developed information
system? Discuss possible reasons. (7)
(ii) What is the root cause of the problem? How could have this problem been avoided? (5)
(iii) How should be consultant start his analysis? (3)
