Basic Semiconductor Concepts, Device Structure and Physical operation of PN Junction under the Open-Circuit
condition, Reverse-Bias Condition, Breakdown Region and Forward Bias condition, Linear and Non-Linear
devices, PN junction diode working and Current-Voltage Characteristics.
Module No. 2 Non-Linear One Port Devices 8 Hours
Diode as circuit elements, Ideal Diode Model, Exponential Model- Graphical and Iterative Analysis, Piecewise
Linear Model of Diode, Constant-Voltage Drop Model, Small Signal Model, Diode Load-Line Analysis, Parallel
and Series-Parallel Configurations, Rectifier, Clippers, Clampers, Networks with DC and AC Source.

Module No. 3 Non-Linear Two Port Devices 10 Hours
Device Structure and Physical operation of Depletion-Type MOSFET and Enhancement-Type MOSFET,
Introduction to CMOS, MOSFETs as Non-Linear Two Port Devices, MOSFETs – Transfer and Output
Characteristics, DC Bias point, Separating the DC analysis and small signal analysis, Small-signal equivalent
circuit models, Signal current in drain terminal, the trans-conductance, Modeling the body effect and CLM,
Voltage gain, Input and output impedance.
Module No. 4 Biasing of MOSFET-based 9 Hours
Amplifiers
Fixed-Bias Configuration, Self-Bias Configuration, Voltage-Divider Configuration, Common Gate, Common
Source, Common Drain amplifier.
Module No. 5 MOSFET-based Differential Amplifier 10 Hours
Differential Pair with Common Mode Input Voltage, Differential Input Voltage, Large signal operation, Small
Signal Operation, Differential Amplifier with Resistive, Current Source and Current mirror Loads, Common
Mode Rejection Ratio, DC-offset.
