1.0 Purpose:

The purpose of this method statement is to develop a safe working procedure while
doing Excavation as per approved drawing/specifications at MWC.

2.0 Scope:

The work procedure is applicable for Excavation work activities at MWC.


3.0 Permit to work:

3.1 C2C shall raise the required permits (general, excavation permit) for Excavation work
activity at MWC site.

3.2 The permit shall be issued initially for one shift and extended further for the balance duration.

3.3 This permit shall be applicable in areas where specific clearance from –BASF/ Authorized
personnel from BASF.

3.4 BASF/ Authorized personnel from BASF field Engineer/Safety officer/Area coordinators will
verify and counter sign Method Statement & JSA shall be attached to PTW.

3.5 All the safety points mentioned in the permit shall be strictly adhere till the activity is
Completed and permit signed off.

4.0 Reference:

4.2 Job Safety Analysis.

4.3 HSE Plan for the project.

5.0 Safety:

5.1 All the safety requirement as listed in PTW shall be adhered. BASF / Authorized personnel
from BASF Safety standards shall be applied.

5.2 JSA shall be carried out & approval obtained from BASF/ Authorized personnel from
BASF prior to the start of the Activity & shall be referred during the course of the activity.

5.3 Tool box talks & JSA briefings shall be conducted for all the workmen involved
in the activity.

5.4 Safety assistant shall be in attendance.

5.5 All workmen, supervisors, engineers at working area shall adhere to the general safety
Such as wearing safety helmet, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, reflective jacket etc.

5.6 HSE Plan and relevant BASF-Authorized person from BASF safety standards shall be
adhered all times.

5.7 Work area shall be barricaded and caution, notice boards shall be displayed.

6.0 Methodology Details:

1:- GENERAL TOOLS REQUIREMENTS FOR EXCAVATION:

The following tools are required for these work activities,

1. Mechanical Excavator- porcelain /JCB


2. Picasso
3. Spade
4. Tipper
5. Auto level
6. Bond
2:- EXCAVATION:

1. Mark the area to be excavated with reference to the grid pillars established and prepare a
earth work plan to handle, store and retrieve the earth excavated for back filling.
2. The spot levels of the site shall be taken and recorded for future reference and the same
shall be reviewed by PMC/Client on routine basis.
3. Area of construction shall be cleared of all material including bushes, trees, vegetation,
obstruction and rubbish disposed of to a suitable place as per provisions in the contract.
4. Depending on the depth of excavation and sub-soil conditions, sloping shall be done on
the sides as per site requirement to protect from any collapse of sides and this shall be
done as per sketches / instructions by the engineer wherever necessary.
5. Depth of the excavation is 1.0 Mtr
6. Excavation shall be done by manually or machineries like porcelain / JCB
excavator/Compressor breaker shall be carried out to a depth of 100 mm above the
final level. The balance shall be excavated manually with special care to get required
level and shape.
7. Correct bottom levels of the excavation shall be checked as per drawings/
specification.
8. Whenever sub-soil water is encountered during excavation, necessary dewatering
arrangements shall be made by well points or by pumping the same, making a
suitable sump in the corner of the excavate area for disposal of water.

9. Excavated material shall preferably be deposited within 1.5 meter away from top edge of
excavation or within a distance equal to depth of excavation whichever is higher in normal
condition.
10. Approaches for labour – workmen shall be provided during excavation Ramps or ladders
will be considered in to the excavation for safe access.
11. If the excavation has gone deeper than the required level, it shall be brought back to the
required level by sand as per requirement and compact it as per norms.
12. The final level shall be offered for PMC/CLIENT verification and necessary records
should be generated.

7.0 RESPONSPILITY MATRIX: -

1 Construction Manager Responsible for activity & shall approve total plan to carry
out the work activity. As there is a potential risk of incident
during the execution CM shall involve himself to ensure that
all possible mitigations are carried out & the risk is brought
to the minimum level.
2 HSE In-Charge The site HSE In-charge is responsible for the implementation of
the HSE program. As HSE administrator, the site HSE in charge
shall function as adviser, consultant to the site Management,
Supervisory personnel, in establishing and maintaining
compliance with local laws and regulations, Client HSE
requirements.
3 Engineer Full responsibility for HSE activities on the Project Overall
management and execution of the Work. Shall ensure that
construction personnel have the relevant competency and
experience to execute the work safety. Shall ensure work
procedures contain HSE requirements and hazards are identified,
assessed, properly managed and are understood by supervisors /
workers.

4 Supervisor Mechanical Supervisor shall be responsible for carrying out


the activity as per the procedure & in a safe manner. He will
brief all his crew persons as to how the activity shall be
carried out & that each one of them has clearly understood
their role to play.
5 Job Foreman/worker Shall be responsible for activity and involved crew person.
He will ensure that access and egress properly. Clearly

understood the job safe procedure, hazard involve, measures
to be taken. Confirm the PTW before start the job. He shall
inform to supervisor if any unsafe condition or act during
work.
6 Safety Officer/ Shall act as a focal point with Client’s representative, on
Supervisor HSE matters Safety Officer/Safety Supervisor shall be
available all the time during the operations. He will verify
that method statement, JSA. He has the authority to stop the
job & report to CM for violation of any safety requirements.
