1.3 Configuring Internet Access on an AR Router

Through a Web System

1.3.1 Common Internet Access Configuration Scenarios

The Internet can be accessed through a broadband dial-up connection, a fixed IP
address, a dynamically allocated IP address, and 3G/4G.

Internet Access Through a Broadband Dial-Up Connection

A broadband dial-up connection is also called a PPPoE connection, which is easy
to configure and the most widely used for Internet access. You can use the user
name and password allocated by a carrier to access the Internet through this
method.

Internet Access Through a Fixed IP Address

In this method, a carrier provides you a fixed IP address or IP address segment.
You can enter the IP address or IP address segment on an AR router and perform
some simple configurations to access the Internet. Fixed IP addresses are
expensive and usually used in enterprises that need to construct private line
networks.

Internet Access Through a Dynamically Allocated IP Address

An IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS server address are dynamically
allocated to a device. This method does not require any parameter setting, user
name, or password. You only need to configure the device to automatically obtain
an IP address and a DNS server address.

Internet Access in 3G/4G Mode

The 3G/4G mode is a wireless Internet access mode. To access the Internet using
this method, a device must support the 3G/LTE function and have a SIM card and
an antenna installed. For some SIM cards, the user name, password, and APN
information must be obtained from carriers in advance. 3G/4G is commonly used
for enterprise branches that are located in remote areas and where wired
networks are difficult to deploy, for example, chain stores and filling stations.

How to Configure an AR Router 1 How to Configure an AR Router

1.3.2 Prerequisites for Configuring Internet Access on an AR

Router Through a Web System
● The AR router has been logged in through a web system.
● The AR router has been correctly connected. The drop cable provided by the
carrier is connected to the WAN port on the AR router, and a PC is connected
to the LAN port on the AR router, as shown in Figure 1-5. If 3G/4G is used for
Internet access, no WAN link is required.

Figure 1-5 Connection diagram

After the line connection is complete, the indicators of the WAN port and LAN

port on the AR router are steady on. If any of the indicators is off or is
displayed on the PC, the line connection is abnormal. In this case, ensure that the
network cables are properly connected or replace network cables.

1.3.3 Configuring Internet Access on an AR Router

This section describes how to configure Internet access on an AR router and how
to troubleshoot common faults during configuration.

[Link] Internet Access Through a PPPoE Connection

A user wants to access the Internet through a PPPoE connection and has obtained
the user name and password for dial-up from the carrier. The router functions as a
PPPoE client and uses the user name and password provided by the carrier to
connect to the Internet. The router accesses the Internet through GE0/0/4, using
the user name admin and password admin@huawei obtained from the carrier.

1.4 Six Steps to Apply for and Load a Commercial

License File

1.4.1 Precautions for Applying for and Loading a License File

Overview of Licenses
License: A license is an agreement between the supplier and customer, authorizing
the scope and period of using the purchased product (it refers to the software
product in this document). The license enables you to obtain the services
committed by the supplier. A license is composed of a license file and a license
entitlement certificate.
● The license entitlement certificate is sent to customers by email or delivered
with the product in A4 papers or CD-ROMs after the customers purchase or
renew a license. Some information in the license entitlement certificate will be
used during license application.
● License file: To use functions controlled by the license, you must apply for a
license file. Only one license file is generated on a device even if you have
purchased multiple licenses. The license file is bound to the Equipment Serial
Number (ESN). That is, a license file is unique and corresponds to only one
device. The following describes details about a license file.
License file naming rule: The name of a license file automatically generated
by the ESDP system is generally LIC+Device series number+_+Version to which
the license applies+_+Application date+[Link]. You can change the name
as required. The license file name cannot contain space characters and must
end with .dat.
Example: LICAR3200_all_20190829UQ1F60.dat
– LIC: This fixed field, together with 20190829UQ1F60, composes the
license serial number, which corresponds to LicenseSerialNo in the
license file.
– AR3200: Device series number. For example, if the device model is
AR2240, the device series number is AR2200.
– all: Indicates that the license is applicable to all versions.
License file parsing: For details about the file content, see the comments in
the following example of the license file
LICAR3200_all_20190829UQ1F60.dat. Only the fields that you may concern
are commented out. During license file loading, you may need to check
whether the values of Product, Esn, and Version in the license file are the
same as those on the current device. If they are different, the license file fails
to be loaded.

CAUTION

The license file can only be viewed and cannot be modified. After being modified,
the license file will be invalid.

Under What Conditions a License Is Required

After purchasing an AR router, you can log in to the router to configure basic
functions for Internet access and connect the router to devices on two or more
networks to make it function as a gateway. The basic configurations include basic
device configurations such as USB-based deployment and file management, device
management configurations such as energy-saving management, PoE
configuration, and OPS configuration, interface management configurations, IP
service configurations such as NAT, DHCP, ARP, and DNS, and route configurations.

resources due to service expansion, you need to purchase a license for the required
features or resources to meet service needs. For example, to control Internet
access behaviors, use the voice function, or use the Wi-Fi function, you need to
purchase the corresponding license. The license reduces costs for you. You can
select licenses as required to obtain customized functions.

NOTE

Temporary licenses apply to trial use of new features, POC test in the market expansion
stage, product exhibition, and R&D test before product launch. To obtain a temporary
license, contact Huawei technical support. The principles for distributing temporary licenses
are as follows:
● A temporary license can be used by only one user. That is, the user name cannot be
changed.
● The usage time is limited and cannot be adjusted.

Understanding License Control Items to Facilitate License Purchase

Before applying for and loading a license file, you need to know the license control
items involved by a product and details about each license control item. You can
use either of the following methods to query license control items of a product,
including BOM codes, control item description, and supported versions.

● See Introduction to License Control Items in the license usage guide.

● Use the License query tool. Figure 1-19 shows the tool GUI.

Figure 1-19 GUI of the license query tool

Quotation and Purchase of License Control Items

To obtain quotation information of license control items, consult the local office or
agent of Huawei.

After obtaining the quotation information, you can purchase the license from the
local office or agent of Huawei. Licenses need to be purchased in the following
scenarios: 1. No license file has been loaded on a device, and the license is
purchased for the first time. After the purchase, the corresponding commercial
contract is obtained. 2. An activated license file exists on a device, but users need
to purchase some new licenses for service expansion. After the purchase, the
contract for service expansion is obtained.

1.4.2 Four Steps to Apply for a License File

[Link] Applying for a Commercial License File at a New Site

At a new site, no license file has been loaded on devices. The license is purchased
for the first time and a corresponding commercial contract is obtained after the
purchase. A license file is not required for using basic functions of a device. You
need to purchase a license only when value-added features or more resources
need to be used.

Procedure
Step 1 Obtain the entitlement ID or activation password from the license entitlement
certificate.

The license entitlement certificate is sent to customers by email or delivered with

the product in A4 papers or CD-ROMs. If the license entitlement certificate is lost,
log in to the ESDP system at [Link] and retrieve the
certificate based on the contract No..

NOTE

You can use either of the following methods to apply for a license file for commercial
deployment:
● Entitlement activation: Enter search criteria (such as the contract No., order No., and
entitlement ID) and activate the entitlement based on the search result. If the
entitlement ID is not used as a search criterion, skip Step 1.
● Password activation: Obtain the activation password from the license entitlement
certificate and activate the license using the activation password. Only enterprise users
can activate the license using the activation password.

Step 2 Obtain the device ESN.

Log in to the device through the web system, and choose Maintenance > Device
Information. The device ESN is specified by Equipment serial number on the
page.

[Link] Applying for a Commercial License File at a Capacity Expansion Site

At a capacity expansion site, an activated license file exists on a device, but users
need to purchase some new function licenses or resource licenses. After the
purchase, the contract for service expansion is obtained. A device corresponds to a
license file. For capacity expansion sites, the ESDP system automatically merges all
license items on the same device into a single license file. The target product
version must be the same as or later than the source product version.
Before applying for a license file, ensure that:
● The product name and ESN in the capacity expansion contract are the same
as those on the live network.
● The license entitlement status for capacity expansion is Ready.

Procedure
Step 1 Obtain the entitlement ID or activation password from the license entitlement
certificate.
The license entitlement certificate is sent to customers by email or delivered with
the product in A4 papers or CD-ROMs. If the license entitlement certificate is lost,
