ANALYSIS OF THE SOCIOEDUCATIONAL CONTEXT OF THE SCHOOL. (PROBLEMATIZATION)
This curricular proposal indicates the teaching of English as a foreign language, which is included within the formative field
of “Languages”. Since 2011, efforts have been made to create a curricular space for teaching English as an additional
language to the languages used in the country. This inclusion occurs under three fundamental particularities, in relation to
the rest of the curricular contents:
 The focus of the subject has remained aligned with the content related to the teaching of mother tongues – an action-
centred approach – in order to facilitate the integration of the content.
 The structuring between achievement levels and the distribution of content. In order to grade progress in mastery
and competence in the English language, two types of references are used: international achievement standards,
related to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: learning, teaching, assessment (CEFR), as
well as national achievement standards, articulated with the curricular contents.
 The progressive expansion of coverage. One of the key changes to ensure and increase the level of achievement in
English has been to expand the time in the curriculum, which was initially only taught in the three secondary grades,
to include a total of 10 years: from preschool to 3rd year of secondary school. In the case of primary and preschool
education, this effort has been made through various mechanisms, including the incorporation of an additional
teacher to the teacher in front of the group.
