DARMASISWA RI PROGRAM

DARMASISWA is a scholarship program extended by the government of the Republic of


Indonesia to foreign students from countries with which Indonesia has friendly relations. The
program offered are Indonesian language, arts, music and crafts. Participants can choose their
place of study from over 38 participating universities and colleges.

The main purpose of the Darmasiswa program is to arouse and foster interest in the
Indonesian language and culture among citizens of friendly countries, and to reciprocate
scholarship programs provided by other countries for Indonesian citizens and to forge closer
cultural links with these nations.

The DARMASISWA program is essentially a "non-degree" program of one year or less. The
participants are prohibited from engaging in any political and/or business activities which
may result in destabilizing governmental programs or lead to personal profit/gain.

Darmasiswa RI Program offered with 3 schemes, i.e:

• Darmasiswa RI Regular Program - 1 year


• Darmasiswa RI Plus Program - 1 year
• Darmasiswa RI Short Course Program - 6 months

A. DARMASISWA RI REGULAR PROGRAM

1. Rights and Obligations of Participants

a. Free of tuition fee


b. Willing to help the universities/colleges in academic activitiesfor approx. 5 (five)
hours per week.
c. The participants may seek their universities assistance (from their own university) in
finding a accommodation to rent.
d. The participants will be fetched at the airport upon arrival.

2. Annual Schedule of Darmasiswa RI Regular Program

a. Application deadline: 31st of March.


b. Selection of documents: 15th of April.
c. Orientation and Bahasa Indonesia course: 4th week of August.
d. Academic program: August/September to July.

B. DARMASISWA RI PLUS PROGRAM

Students of DARMASISWA RI Plus program who are invited to study in university/college,


are required to teach their native language (English, French, German, Japanese and Chinese)
at an Indonesian Education Institute.

1. Right and Obligation of Participants

a. Free of tuition fee.


b. Willing to be placed any where in Indonesia in order to/ and to teach foreign language
for 10 (ten) hours per week.
c. The participants may seek their school's assistancc in finding accommodation.
d. The participants will be fetched at the airport on their arrival.

2. Schedule of Darmasiswa RI Plus Program


a. Application deadline: End of April.
b. Selection of documents: 1st-of May.
c. Orientation, Bahasa Indonesia course, and Teaching Methodology: 1st week of
August.
d. Teaching program: 1St week of September until 2nd week of December and 1st week
of May until 4th week of July.
e. Academic program: 1st week of January until 4th week of April.

C. DARMASISWA RI SHORT COURSE PROGRAM

Darmasiswa RI Scholarship Short Course Program aims to facilitate the upgrading of the
foreign students knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia in Indonesian Higher Education Institutions
for the period of 6 (six) months in order to prepare the foreign students for obtaining
undergraduate and graduate programs at Indonesian Universities on their own, who will
obtain the undergraduate as well as graduate programs in the Indonesian Higher Education
Institutions using by their own cost.

II. PROCEDURES FOR DARMASISWA RI REGULAR, DARMASISWA RI PLUS,


AND DARMASISWA RI SHORT COURSE PROGRAMS

A. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

The applicants are allowed to apply for more than one Higher Education Institution and are
required to submit their complete application forms and other documents to the Embassy or
Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in the country of residence.

The applications that are selected by the Indonesian Embassy will be submitted to the Bureau
of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of National Education or the Directorate
of Public Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

B. QUALIFICATIONS OF PARTICIPANTS FOR DARMASISWA RI REGULAR


AND DARMASISWA RI PLUS PROGRAMS

The applicants for the DARMASISWA RI Regular and Plus Programs should conform to the
following requirements:
1. Are not older than 35 years.
2. Have completed Secondary Education or its equivalent.
3. Have a basic knowledge of the field they are applying for.
4. Have filled in the Application Form provided by the Ministry of National Education
(MONE) through the Indonesian Attache/Embassy in their countries of residence.
5. The said form should be accompanied by three (3) copies of the applicants' latest
passport photo.
6. Are in good health as evidenced by a Medical Certificate duly signed by a doctor from
their countries of residence.
7. Submit their application documents to the Indonesian Attache/Embassy in their
countries of residence.
8. Submit five (5) copies of their latest passport photo of 2 x 3 cm and 4 x 6 cm to the
MONE upon arrival in Indonesia.
9. Submit a photocopy of their passports valid for at least two more (2) years.

C. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS OF PARTICIPANTS FOR DARMASISWA RI


SHORT COURSE PROGRAM

The applicants shall:

a. Fill in and submit the application form


b. Submit a copy of the admission letter from the proposed higher education institution
c. Submit a copy of the academic transcript
d. Submit a recommendation on health condition from a local physician
e. Submit a photo sized 4 x 6 cm (5 pieces)
f. Submit a copy of passport valid for at least 18 more months.
g. Good Knowledge of English.

D. VISA ARRANGEMENT FOR DARMASISWA RI REGULAR AND


DARMASISWA RI PLUS PROGRAMS

1. For their studies in Indonesia, the Darmasiswa participants are required to have a
social visit visa issued by the Indonesian Embassy in the participant's country of
residence.
2. Upon arrival in Indonesia, the Darmasiswa. participant's passport has to be submitted
to the Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of National
Education, for necessary arrangements for obtaining recommendations of the
Secretariat of State and the. Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

E. VISA ARRANGEMENT FOR DARMASISWA RI SHORT COURSE PROGRAM

The selected participants shall apply for a Limited Stay VisaNisa Tinggal Terbatas (VITAS)
on this program at the local Embassy / Consulate General / Foreign Ministry Office of the
Republic of Indonesia after being endorsed by the Directorate General of Immigration,
Jakarta. Therefore, participants shall send their copy of passport valid for at least 18 more
months to the Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of National
Education.

F. THE SCHOLARSHIP COVERS


a. Exemption from tuition fee.
b. Allowance on living cost of Rp 1.000.000,00 (one million rupiah) per months.
c. Clothing allowance; a one-time payment of Rp 300.000,00 (three hundred thousands
rupiah).

G. AIRFARE TICKET

The participants are responsible for air flight ticket.

H. HEALTH INSURANCE

The participants are expected to have an international health insurance since it is not provided
by the organizing committee.
