Tutorial 4: RTT, Conservation of mass, Conservation of momentum
1. Water flowing at 0.1m/s and another fluid (alcohol) of specific gravity = 0.8
flowing at 0.3m/s are mixed in a y shaped duct as shown. What is the average
density of the mixture?

2. A tank of 0.05m volume contains air at 800KPa and 15ºC. At t=0, air begins
escaping from a tank through a valve with a flow area of 65mm2. The air passing
through the valve has a speed of 300m/s and a density of 6Kg/m3. Determine
the instantaneous rate of change of density in the tank at t = 0.
3. Determine the magnitude and direction of the anchoring force needed to hold
the horizontal elbow and nozzle combination shown. Atmospheric pressure is
100 kPa(abs). The gage pressure at section (1) is 100 kPa. At section (2), the
water exits to the atmosphere.

4. A 10-mm diameter jet of water is deflected by a homogeneous rectangular block
(15 mm by 200 mm by 100 mm) that weighs 6 N as shown. Determine the
minimum volume flowrate needed to tip the block.
