6. Project Summary:
The proposed project aims to develop an innovative and cost-effective mobile
application that enhances the tourist experience at heritage sites in Tamil Nadu. By
leveraging the latest technologies such as edge computing, AI-powered voice
assistance, Bluetooth beacons, augmented reality (AR), and crowdsourced content, this
application will provide real-time, multilingual, voice-assisted insights about the history
and significance of heritage sites. The solution will be accessible, immersive, and
scalable, making it suitable for widespread adoption without relying on expensive
infrastructure.
7. Proposed solution with methodology
The solution integrates several modern technologies to offer personalized, immersive,
and context-aware experiences to tourists at Tamil Nadu's heritage sites. The primary
components of the solution are:
a. Edge Computing for Low-Cost, Real-Time Processing:
By leveraging mobile devices' processing power, real-time voice recognition,
historical content processing, and providing insights on the go can be achieved. This
reduces reliance on costly cloud infrastructure and ensures smooth operation even
in areas with limited connectivity.
b. Voice Assistance via Open-Source Models:
Open-source NLP and speech-to-text models will be used to capture user queries,
interpret them, and respond in a multilingual format. This ensures the system
remains cost-effective and can cater to diverse tourists.
c. Bluetooth Beacons for Location-Based Data:
Strategic placement of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons will trigger context-
aware information and historical insights based on the tourist's proximity to specific
heritage sites. This enables seamless, location-based interactions without requiring
expensive GPS-based infrastructure.
d. Augmented Reality (AR) Using Mobile Devices:
The application will utilize AR technologies to overlay 3D models, historical
reconstructions, and other educational content, enriching the visitor's experience at
heritage sites. Users can view historical sites as they were in their prime and interact
with augmented content through their smartphones.
e. Crowdsourced Content for Authentic Insights:
The app will allow users to contribute photos, stories, and insights about heritage
sites. This crowdsourced content will keep the information dynamic, authentic, and
up-to-date.
f. Sustainability and Minimal Infrastructure:
The solution will focus on minimizing infrastructure needs by relying on mobile
devices, open-source technologies, and low-cost beacons, making it affordable and
scalable.
Methodology:
Mobile App Development: The app will be developed for both Android and iOS
platforms, using native SDKs and AR tools (ARCore/ARKit).
AI & Voice Integration: Open-source NLP, speech-to-text, and text-to-speech
models will be integrated for multilingual voice-assisted interactions.
Beacon and AR Setup: BLE beacons will be deployed at selected sites, and AR
content will be developed and linked to the app.
Crowdsourcing Integration: A user-contribution feature will be included for tourists
to submit historical insights, stories, and images.
Technical Implementation:
Voice Recognition & AI Models: Integrating NLP and speech recognition models
for multilingual interactions using tools like Dialogflow and DeepSpeech.
Bluetooth Beacon Setup: BLE beacons will trigger contextual data when tourists
are near specific sites.
AR Integration: ARCore (Android) and ARKit (iOS) will display historical content
and 3D reconstructions.
User Interface (UI): A simple, multilingual, and intuitive UI to enhance user
experience.
Backend Infrastructure: Cloud services (e.g., AWS, Firebase) will store content
and manage crowdsourced data.
User Guide:
Installation & Navigation: Easy installation and navigation guide for both platforms.
Voice Assistant: Instructions on interacting with the app for multilingual voice
assistance.
AR & Crowdsourcing: Guidance on viewing AR content and contributing user-
generated data.
Privacy & Data Usage: Information on location tracking and data handling for
crowdsourcing features.
Benefits:
Enhanced Experience: Real-time, multilingual, AR-enhanced, and crowdsourced
content provides a personalized experience.
Cost-Effective: The solution reduces infrastructure costs by using mobile devices,
BLE beacons, and open-source tools.
Scalability: The app can be extended to other heritage sites in Tamil Nadu and
beyond.
Challenges & Risk Mitigation:
Connectivity Issues: The app will cache data for offline use in areas with poor
connectivity.
AR Performance on Low-End Devices: The app will be optimized for a range of
devices.
Crowdsourced Content Accuracy: A moderation system will ensure the quality of
user-submitted content.
