GUIDE TO WIND LOAD CALCULATIONS

BASED ON NSCP 2015

By: Engr. Muhammadnur B. Muhammad

Sample Problem:
Shown is a proposed building in a certain University 13mx15.7m in horizontal dimensions. It is
required to calculate the wind loading on the roof truss using NSCP 2015.

Solution:
The general procedure for buildings of all heights is shown in Table 207B.2-1.
P116
STEP 1. The building is a school building, therefore based on Table 103-1, it is Category I

P19-20

STEP 2. From Figure 207A.5-C, wind velocity V = 260km/h = 72.22m/s

STEP 3.
3.1 From Table 207A.6-1, wind directionality factor Kd = 0.85

3.2 The site is considered Exposure C
P95
3.3 Kzt = 1.0 for flat terrain
P100
3.5 Gust effect factor G = 0.85

P109
3.6 Internal pressure coefficient G = 0.85 for rigid building
