EngMod2T Suit of Programs

The EngMod2T suit of programs comes in 9 files. You should have a mail containing links to
download the following:

1. Dat2T_V5.[Link]
2. Dat2T_Help.exe
3. EngMod2T_V4.[Link]
4. EngMod2T_Help.exe
5. Post2T_V1.[Link]
6. Post2T_Help.exe
7. [Link]
8. Dat2T_BalanceHelp.exe

The first two files contain the install software for the pre-processor executable and help files.
The second two contain the install software for the simulator software and help files, the third
two files contain the install software for the post-processor software and help fi les and the final
two some examples and Help for the mechanical module. This module is still under
development and only available to fully licensed users.

The versions of some of the files might be different as they are under continuous
development.

1. Introduction

Download these files to a convenient folder and double click each one in turn to install the
contents.. It is highly recommended that you do a default install which will put each
executable with its help files in its own folder under “C:\Program Files”. A working directory
where all the project files and output folders will reside called “C:\2Stroke” will also be created.

2. Creating Temporary Folder from “My Computer” Desk

To create a temporary folder execute the following steps:

1. Double click on the “My Computer” icon on your desktop.

2. This will open the following window:

3. In this window, double click on the “Local Disc (C:)” icon which the opens the following
window:

4. In this window, click on the “File” menu in the top left hand corner which will open the
following drop down menu on which you click “New” which opens a further menu:

5. Click on the “Folder” item in this menu which will open a new folder in the “C:\” window:

6. Next type the name you want to give this folder and then click any where in the
window, in this example we used the name “temp”:

7. You have now created the folder. The next step is to copy the mail attachments to this
folder.

3. Create Temporary Folder if there is no “My Computer”

1. Click on the “Start” button in the bottom left corner.

2. Depending on the version of Windows a menu will open with a “My Computer” icon or
not. If it is there click on it and follow the steps of the previous paragraph. If not, click
“Settings” and then the “Control Panel” icon. This will open the following window:

3. Click on the “Up” icon in the top left hand menu bar as shown:

4. This will open the “My Computer” window. From here follow the steps of the previous
paragraph.

4. Preparation to Install
Download the files to a temporary folder. The folder should then contain the following files:

5. Installation Description
The installation software is “Inno Setup” from Jordan Russel. ([Link]

All three the executable install files have the same basic layout. If you use the default install
as is they create a folder for each executable with the executable name under “C:\Program
Files”, a desktop shortcut icon and a working directory “C:\2Stroke”. The shortcut should have
this working directory as working directory.

The three help files are installed in the relevant folders where the executables were installed.
The examples are installed in the “C:\2stroke” folder.

6. Installation Example
Double click the install file icon in the temporary folder. In this example the installation of the
Dat2T executable will be used. The following screen will open:

Read the license agreement and if you accept the conditions select the “I accept the
agreement” radio button and click “next”. This should take you to the next screen:

You can, by selecting the “next” button install the executable in the displayed folder or select
your own folder by using the “Browse” button. If you do not use the default folder remember to
select the same folder later when installing the help files else the software will not find the help
files. Selecting the next button will bring up the next screen:

Selecting the “Next” button as is will create a desktop shortcut and the working directory
“c:\2Stroke”. You can unselect either or both. If you unselect the desktop icon you will have to
run the software from the installation folder. Unselecting the working directory you will have to
manually select the working directory. The methodology is explained a bit further on in the
document. Selecting the “Next” button displays the next screen:

This screen is a summary of the tasks to be performed. If you want to change anything select
the “Back” button else start the install process by selecting “Install”. This will install the
software and display the final screen:

Select “Finish” to complete the process.

7. Selecting a new Working Directory for the Shortcut

To select a new working directory for the desktop shortcut follow the following instructions:

Right click on the desktop shortcut icon, in this example we will use “Dat2T”.

This will display the following menu:

Click on the “Properties” menu item. This will display the next screen (This screen will look
subtly different depending on the version of Windows installed on your computer):

Type the new working directory in the “Start in” edit box and click on “Apply”. The software
should now start in your new working directory.

8. Activating EngMod2T License

EngMod2T needs a license file to run. It uses a similar method for a demo installation or a
commercial installation. When trying to run it the first time it will ask whether you want to
register the software.

Select the “Yes” option and answer the question. The name you type in will be displayed by
the software. After entering the name a file with the name and extension “.fig” will be created,
usually in “C:\2Stroke” folder. Email this file to vannik@[Link] and you will receive the
authorization file, [Link]. If you have bought the software you will be authorized for
the next 10 years and if it is for demo purposes, for 30 days. When you receive this
[Link] file, copy it to the same folder whe re you have installed EngMod2T. Usually,
for a default install, this will be “C:\Program Files\EngMod2T”.

9. Installation Problems
As there are many version of the window operating system there might be differences in the
way the software installs. The following is a short list of some of these and the possible
solutions.

1. The project files are not displayed in the project dialog box when starting
“EngMod2T”. Use the method described in the previous section to verify that the shortcut
points to the correct working directory. If not, change it as previously described.
