This is a group assignment that must be completed by a group of a maximum seven
students. It requires that each problem be solved as neatly as possible by demonstrat-
ing all the necessary steps.

2. Let f ( x ) = e x +e− x
. Then find g( x ) so that ( f ◦ g)( x ) = x. (1.5pts)

3. Sketch the graph of the given function by studying all of the possible properties
(Identify the points of discontinuity, holes, vertical asymptotes, horizontal asymp-
tote or oblique asymptote and study the behavior).

First, apply the identity cosh²x - sinh²x = 1, enabling a simplification strategy. Express cosh²x in terms of sinh²x: set u = sinh(x), then cosh²x = 1 + u². Substitute into the equation to get 12(1 + u²) + 7u = 24, leading to 12u² + 7u - 12 = 0. Solving this quadratic equation by factoring or quadratic formula gives the values for u, and thus x, based on sinh inverse relationships.

First, determine intercepts: x-intercept: (2,0); y-intercept: (0,3). The line segment between (2,0) and (0,3) needs to be trisected. Calculate points dividing this segment in the ratio 1:2 and 2:1 using the section formula, giving points (4/3, 2) and (2/3, 1). Using these points and the origin, form equations of lines by determining slopes, y = mx with m being the slope, resulting in y = 3/2x for (4/3, 2) and y = 3x for (2/3, 1).

To find g(x), observe the given function f(x) is the hyperbolic tangent, f(x) = tanh(x). The inverse of the hyperbolic tangent, tanh⁻¹(x), will serve as g(x). Therefore, the function g(x) should be g(x) = tanh⁻¹(x), as this inverse will result in (f ◦ g)(x) = x, returning the original input x.

To determine the points of discontinuity, factor the denominator: x² - 5x + 6 = (x-2)(x-3), indicating potential discontinuities at x = 2 and x = 3. Plugging these into the numerator, only x = 2 makes the numerator zero, suggesting a hole here, whereas x = 3 is a vertical asymptote. There's a horizontal asymptote at y = x since the numerator and denominator have the same degree, thus leading to the ratio of leading coefficients. Studying end behavior shows the function approaches the line y = x.

To find the cube root of z = (−1−i)⁴(−1+ √3i)³, first calculate the individual polar forms of (-1-i) and (-1+√3i). Convert these complex numbers to polar form: for (-1-i), the modulus r is √2 and angle θ is -135°, so (-1-i) = √2(cos 225° + isin 225°). Raising it to the fourth power, we get 16(cos(-540°) + isin(-540°)). Similarly, for (-1+√3i), the modulus is 2 and angle θ is 120°, so explication gives us (-1+ √3i)³ = 8(cos 360° + isin 360°). Multiply these results and apply De Moivre's Theorem to obtain the resultant modulus and argument, then divide the argument by 3 to acquire the cube root in polar form.

Start by expanding both sides using known trigonometric identities. For the left, use cos(A) - cos(B) = -2sin((A+B)/2)sin((A-B)/2) and cos(A) + cos(B) = 2cos((A+B)/2)cos((A-B)/2). Simplify to 2sin(2x)sin(x) / 2cos(2x)cos(x). For the right side, recall tan(2x) = 2tan(x)/(1-tan²x) and expand it. Matching both sides illustrates identity equality, as terms reduce to -tan(2x)tan(x) through simplification.
