ABSTRACT

Workshop Trolley is ideal for storing tools so that they are always close at
hand. Smooth -running castors ensure the trolley is mobile even when fully
loaded. The workshop trolley has numerous functions since it has drawers with
storage capacities of tools used in the workshop. Trolley has advantageous
importance in the workshop as it saves time and increases work efficiency.

The main advantage of coming up with the workshop trolley project is to create
a self sustaining culture which perpetuates neat, clean efficient [Link] will
enhance removal of excess tools from the workplace and organize the tools
such that they are easy to find and maintain.

7
This main advantage of ensuring clean ,orderly use and storage of tools was
derived from 5'S Japanesse methodology that uses list of 5 words that is:
[Link]
[Link]
[Link]
[Link]
[Link]
Which simply means:
[Link] Out
[Link]- in- Order
[Link]
[Link]
[Link]
Thus the workshop trolley will be of great importance by ensuring the first 'S'-
SORTING-OUT the tools needed in the workplace and those not needed by
separating between the trolley by use of shelve partion separators.

Second 'S'-SET-IN-ORDER-The trolley will apply 'PEEP' methodology that

means Place for Every tool and Every Equipment in its place by putting what is
needed inorder.

Third 'S'-SHINE-Which is simply cleaning and wipping of tools and

equipments to prevent defects before storing in the trolley shelves.

Fourth 'S' means STARNDADIZE -Which advocates the habit of applying the
first 3's that is sort, set in order and standardize as routine when appling and
handling tools in the workshop.

Fifth 'S'means SUSTAIN-by training each userof the workshop trolley the
above 5'S methodology that ensures there is neat and orderly
workshop, improved safety and egornomics, reduces searching of
tools, eliminating distractions and ensuring flow in the workshop operations.

8
The workshop trolley will consist several materials for the construction to be
complete by mounting of four-wheel castors that will enable easy mobility from
one place or point to the other.
Steel metal sheet will be used for the bodywork part of it and dividing of
compartment shelves. A handle will also be installed to ease the push of trolley
from one point to the other.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0 INTRODUCTION

The tool workshop trolley is a cart like device that helps carry, categorize, store
and safeguard various tools in a [Link] that make up workshop
trolley include of mounted wheel castors for easy mobility, steel metal sheet and
a handle.

9
1. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

It is a mobile device that tool stored ,well stored and where a shelf is
[Link] trolley is discovered in workshops, where
mechanics, electricians store important tools in the work [Link] also helps
workers on saving man power and improving work efficiency.

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The main objective of this project is to design,to fabricate, and to test the
workshop trolley that will be used to carry tools from one point to another in
workplace.

1.3SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

The project has a great significance in the workplace as the workshop trolley
ensures a prompt, well organised, neat and tidy working area. Flexibility of the
trolley makes it to be used both as mobile workstation or permanently installed
[Link] processes in the workshop becomes faster and safer due to
their mounted wheel castors and contained [Link] project is extremely
user friendly ,robust and more egornormic to the person using workshop trolley.

1.4 SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The project is designed to cover use of trolley in workshops, assembling

plants and industries for ensuring all tools are close at hand.

The main restriction on this project was to establish the;(A) EXACT LOAD
LIMIT: the trolley has to hold, also when it comes to shifting the tools in the
trolley from lower ground to higher levels and vise versa it limit the aspect of
transportation of tools to a point of causing accidents and injuries when it is
passed through staircase.

10
(B)DISABLE PERSONS:The fabricated trolley is limited to only able bodied
[Link] is because pushing of the trolley can be effective by able bodied
[Link] person cannot perform work function on the trolley.

CHAPTER TWO

2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW

Workshop trolley is essential tool in a work place as it ensures there is work

order and fast [Link] purpose of this study was to design,to
develop, fabricate and test workshop trolley to improve work [Link]
trolley play an important role to ensure it saves time in the [Link]
design of trolley is more egornomic to the person using since it has no
musculoskeletal disorders and also its cheap in terms of [Link]
purpose of this project was to come up with a more egonormic or worker
friendly tool in the workplace to ensure it reduces the manpower.

11
2.1 EXISTING DESIGN

The existing workshop trolley is designed to be contained with self shelves

inorder to categorize of different tools in the [Link] trolley will also
hold or carry tools and equipments that are relatively of medium [Link]
material used to design will also be of high quality to ensure it lasts for
long, and also it is made to be flexible to all mobile operations

2.2 PROPOSED DESIGN

The proposed design of workshop trolley is designed to carry

and hold of tools and equipments of high load bearing [Link]
is more stronger to withstand the heavy weight and [Link]
metal material used in trollley construction is non corrosive to
ensure that the tools stored in shelves do not corrode.

25
2.3 PRODUCT UNIQUE FEATURES

The trolley is ideal work equipment that allows the worker to

have all necessary work equipment and tools readily available
with help of mounted castor [Link] trolley is compact and
fitted with handles to make handling easier and [Link]
also ensure a tidy storage of tools and ensures that every tool you
need is close at hand.

CHAPTER THREE

3.0 METHODOLOGY

The main method used to research and correct data toward this
project was through online google search, field research in
related fields towards completion of this project.

3.1 NATURE OF THE PRODUCT

Due to the uniqueness in the made project the project will

meet high market demand from technical institution
workshops, auto garage where technicians will use to store
and carry workshops tools and equipments improving work
efficiency and ensuring every tool is close at hand.

29
3.2DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCTION

The steps involved in the production process of the workshop

trolley was first to :

2. Design the trolley

3. Measuring and marking of metal sheet with help of Scribber

4. Cutting of metal sheet by use of Grinder

5. Fabricating &Welding with use of Rods.

6. Painting for durability and aesthetic value

7. Finnally,testing the trolley

3.3 PROJECT COMPONENT,TESTING&ESTIMATION

COST

The project component used in workshop trolley include of

wheel castors, metal sheet and handle [Link] table below shows

3.5 PRODUCT TESTING AND FUCTIONALITY

On completion of workshop trolley project tool, has

improved work efficiency, the manpower is also reduced and
every tool in the workshop is close at [Link] fuctionality
the tool is worker freindly to the person using it beacuse it is
more egonomic and does not cause himan muscukeletal
disorders.

CHAPTER FOUR

4.0 FINDING AND DATA ANALYSIS

The project completed was first cost effective, since we a able to

design of self made locks, door hinges and door shelves.

4.1 CONCLUSION OF FINDINGS

The desgining of door hinges, shelves doors, locks and

handles used in the workshop trolley assisted us with
technical skills to design of trolley product component thus
saving on cost that would otherwise be used.

4.2 RECOMMENDATIONS OF FINDINGS

After completion it was advisable to maintain the trolley to

ensure it maintain its efficiency from one place to another
by ensuring the castor wheels are lubricated to decrease
friction on moving parts and ensure smooth [Link]
shelves should be locked and keep keys safe to avoid
misplacing the tools to ensure everything is close at hand.
