Line Manager – Emma Experience Director

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Emmanuel College (o�en referred to as ‘Emma’) is one of the larger colleges of the University of Cambridge,
embracing a community of around 500 undergraduate students; 300 graduate students; 90 Fellows and 170
college staff led by the senior management team of the Master, Bursar and Senior Tutor. The college is run by
a Governing Body, which is made up of the senior academic members of the college, known as the Fellowship.
The Governing Body is assisted by a commitee structure.

Emma Experience was introduced in 2023. The programme aims to embrace and support the needs and
poten�al of the whole person, an approach that is dis�nc�ve among the colleges and that is made possible by
new spaces and facili�es that recently became available. The programme has four branches: wellbeing;
community; skills, and careers. Our aim is to send Emma members out into the world not only as academic
achievers, but also as individuals who can use what they have learned for the benefit of society. We wish them
to be people who flourish in the modern working environment, global ci�zens who contribute to their
surroundings, and understand how to look a�er their personal health, wealth and wellbeing. We want to
ensure that everyone develops the professional and personal skills they will need to thrive in life. The Emma
Experience programme creates and curates events and opportuni�es for our college members.

A key part of the programme is to help our students explore careers so that they are beter prepared to pursue
them. Part of your role, as the Co-ordinator will be to curate and administer this por�olio. To be successful,
you will need to build strong rela�onships and communicate effec�vely with students, alumni, employers and
professionals in the university careers service and elsewhere to design and deliver the best-possible career
support.

THE ROLE OF THE CO-ORDINATOR

You will act as administrator to two newly formed ac�vi�es. Firstly, the Emma Experience programme described
above. This will include an Enterprise skills lab and compe��on, and our careers development ini�a�ves, and,
secondly, our post-doc College Research Associates scheme. This is another rela�vely new ini�a�ve for early
career academics without a college home. You will administer and support this scheme and the Research
Associates Society to enable the post-docs to build both social and academic connec�ons.

You will report to the Emma Experience Director but also work closely with the Senior Tutor (responsible for
the educa�onal and pastoral ac�vi�es of the college), the Bursar (who looks a�er financial and administra�ve
maters) and the Development Director (who liaises closely with our 10,000 alumni) and their teams.

You will have a flexible approach to your role and be willing to help the Emma Experience Director as need
arises. You will have strong writen and verbal communica�on skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to work
well within teams. Time management, organisa�onal skills and data analysis are also requirements. You will
be able to apply good judgement and take a crea�ve approach to problem solving. A good working knowledge
of Microso� Office, online communica�ons and database use is required.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITES
The focus of the role is to support the Emma Experience Director deliver all aspects of the programme,
primarily through co-ordina�on and administra�on. Specific tasks are as follows:

• Provide administra�ve support to Emma Experience programmes, including: responding efficiently to


correspondence, scheduling and organising events, maintaining programme data, and assis�ng in
evalua�on.
• Assist in the development of Emma Experience programming, plans and projects.
• Provide administra�ve support for the new Personal and Professional Development Cer�ficate
scheme. This will involve maintaining records of par�cipa�on and responding to queries.
• Administer the Emma Enterprise Lab and subsequent compe��on in collabora�on with other College
members.
• Keep up to date an online event calendar, cura�ng and adding entries sent by student socie�es,
working with undergraduate and postgraduate representa�ve socie�es to use the collabora�ve online
calendar. Other opportuni�es will also be gazeted for the weekly newsleter, The Acorn, and on the
programme website.
• Develop and administer a career mentoring and internship programme that connects alumni with
students and recent graduates.
• Coordinate ac�vi�es to enable our students to navigate the University career services available to
them.
• Improve and administer the College’s online careers database.
• Collect and analyse data for monitoring and evalua�on from gradua�ng students.
• Provide administra�ve support for the College Research Associate scheme and act as administrator to
the College’s post-doc Research Associates Society.
• Any other du�es and responsibili�es that are consistent with the post of Co-ordinator, as reasonably
requested from �me to �me.
