Frequency Assignment

1) What is distribution and why should we

observe it?
Ans: Distribution refers to the way in which values or datapoints are spread or
arranged in a dataset.
It describes how often each value occurs and provides insights to the
characteristics of the data.
Why should we observe it:
 Understanding the behaviour.
 Identifying the outliers.
 Choosing statical methods
 Making decisions
 Visualizing data

2) Explain frequency and frequency distribution

with an example.
Ans: Frequency:
Frequency refers to the number of times a particular value or
category appears in a dataset. It gives insight into how often each value occurs.
Frequency Distribution:
It is a summary of how often each distinct value appears in a
dataset. It is presented in the form of table, graph and others visualization data
graphs.

Ex: 1,2,2,3,4,4,4,5,5
Here 4 appeared three times and 3 is the frequency of 4.

3) What is relative frequency? Explain its formula

Ans: Relative frequency is the ratio of frequency of a particular value or a
category to the total no of observations in a dataset.
It allows for easier comparison between two different categories.
Relative frequency = Frequency of a category / total no of observations.

4) There are 200 sports equipment available in a

school out of which 40 are footballs,60 are
cricket bats,10 are Hockey sticks, 30 are volley
balls, 20 are cricket Balls, 25 are skipping ropes
and 15 are Basket balls.
a) Create a table and calculate frequency for
each of the sports items.
b) Calculate relative frequency for each of the
sports items.
c) Calculate Cumulative frequency for the table.
d) Calculate the cumulative frequency of Cricket
Balls and Cricket Bats.
Ans:
a) Frequency table:
Sports Equipment Frequency
Footballs 40
Cricket Bats 60
Hockey Sticks 10
Volleyballs 30
Cricket Balls 20
Skipping Ropes 25
Basketballs 15
Total 200

b) Relative frequency:
Football – 40/200 = 0.20
Cricket Bats – 60/200 = 0.30
Hockey Sticks – 10/200 = 0.05
Volleyballs – 30/200 = 0.15
Cricket Balls – 20/200 = 0.10
Skipping ropes – 25/200 = 0.125
Basket balls – 15/200 = 0.075

c) Cumulative frequency:

Sports Equipment Frequency Cumulative Frequency

Footballs 40 40

Cricket Bats 60 100

Hockey Sticks 10 110

Volleyball 30
s 140

Cricket 20 160
Balls

Skipping 25
Ropes 185

Basketballs 200
15

Tota 200
l 200

d) Cumulative frequency of Cricket Bats and Cricket Balls:

Cricket Bats= 100 , Cricket Balls = 160.
