CBR to Bearing Capacity Correlation

Rosenak (1968) established a correlation between bearing capacity and CBR of soil, represented by specific equations. Figure 3 illustrates that Rosenak's equation significantly underestimates the ultimate bearing capacity for higher CBR values when compared to the tested soil results. This indicates a need for revised equations to better reflect the relationship at elevated CBR levels.

Rosenak (1968) assumed that the bearing capacity is in direct correlation with the CBR of

the soil as shown below:

Figure (3) shows a comparison of the relationship obtained in the work between the
Ultimate bearing capacity and the CBR of the tested soil with that of Rosenak (1968). It is
obvious from this figure that the equation suggested by Rosenak (1968) underestimates
significantly the ultimate bearing capacity especially for the higher CBR values.
