Form 2 Math Lesson Plan: Reciprocals

The lesson plan outlines a mathematics class focused on teaching Form 2 students about reciprocals of numbers through division and mathematical tables. The lesson includes specific objectives, teaching aids, and a structured presentation involving interactive strategies like Think, Pair, Share. The session concludes with a recap and an assignment for students to find the reciprocals of given numbers.

LESSON Title: Reciprocals of numbers by division and from tables Week: 2
Specific Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, the learner should be able to:
(a) define Reciprocal
(b) find reciprocals of numbers by division and from mathematical tables
(c) computation using reciprocals
Teaching Aids:
1. White board for visual aid.
2. Mathematical tables
3. Calculator

PRESENTATION: 5 min
INTRODUCTION:
The teacher:
i. calls class to order
ii. calls class attendance
iii. recaps on previous lesson
iv. clearly states and writes the lesson tittle and objectives on the white board
BODY/LESSON DEVELOPMENT: 5 min
Step 1:
In the Think, Pair, Share strategy, learners individually reflect on the term "reciprocal," then
pair up to discuss and refine their definitions. The teacher circulates to guide discussions and
later facilitates presentations, providing feedback and clarifying misunderstandings.
Step 2: 5 min
Learners, through “Think, Pair, Share” find reciprocals of numbers by division. The trainer
facilitates by asking probing questions, guiding discussions, and addressing any
misconceptions to ensure clarity and deeper comprehension of the concept.
Step3: In a "Think, Pair, Share" learners solve exercises on finding reciprocals of numbers 10 min
using mathematical tables, then collaborate in pairs to discuss their solutions. Each pair
presents their findings to the class, while the trainer clarifies any doubts and reinforces the key
concepts involved in reading values from the mathematical tables for better understanding.
Summary: 5 min
Through “hot potato” active learning strategy, learners recap the lesson as the teacher
observes, controls the discussion and clarifies the concepts.
Assignment:
Find the reciprocals of the following:
a) 9.769
b) 0.001293
c) 928.3
TOTAL TIME 30 MIN
