DRAWING TYPES

ARTISTIC DRAWING/SKETCH
Artistic drawing is the creation of visual art using lines, shapes,
textures, and shading to express emotions, ideas, or aesthetic concepts.

ENGINEERING DRAWING
An engineering drawing is a precise, standardized graphical
representation of an object, system, or structure. It is used to convey
detailed information about the design, dimensions, materials, and
manufacturing or construction processes.
WHAT TO DRAW/DESIGN?
NECESSARY REMINDERS BEFORE STARTING A DESIGN

• Level of Detail
• Gather Reference Material
• Easier to Assemble
• Material Consideration
• Market Availability
ENGINEERING DRAWING
.
TECHNICAL DRAWING ADHERES TO-

• Measurements and proportions are exact to ensure proper

functionality of the design.
• The drawing is easy to read and interpret with clear lines,
labels, and annotations.
• Provides exact dimensions, tolerances, and material details.
ELEMENTS OF
ENGINEERING DRAWING
GRAPHICS LANGUAGE WORD LANGUAGE
(Describes the shape of the drawing) (Describes the size location and specification of the
object)
ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION

It shows object as it looks from the

front, back, right, left and bottom &
typically positioned relative to each
other

It is parallel projection technique in

which the parallel lines of sight are
perpendicular to the projection
plane
ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION
ISOMETRIC PROJECTION
Drawing of a three dimensional shape on a two dimensional surface along a
vertical line with at least two identified points
ISOMETRIC PROJECTION
SECTIONAL VIEW
A sectional view is a representation of an object, building, or structure that
shows internal details as if the object were cut through a plane.
SECTIONAL VIEW
DIMENSIONING

Dimensioning in technical drawings refers to the process

of adding measurements and annotations to define the
size, shape, location, and orientation of the features of a
design.

Proper dimensioning ensures that the part or assembly

can be manufactured or constructed accurately.
DIMENSIONING
DIMENSIONING

(Wrong dimensioning) (Right dimensioning)

DIMENSIONING GUIDELINES
1) Dimension where the featured contour is shown
2) Place the dimension between the views
3) Dimension off the views
4) Dimension mating features for assembly
5) Do not dimension to hidden lines
6) Stagger dimensioning values
7) Create logical arrangement of dimension
8) Consider fabrication processes and capabilities
9) Consider inspection processes and capabilities
