REFLECTION PAPER

A thorough examination of the intricate subject of urban design was

necessary to meet the challenging requirements of the most recent Major

Plate effort in urban design. Resilient and Sustainable Evacuation Center: A

Safe Haven for Naga City’s Vulnerable Communities is the major plate, the

purpose of this reflection is to examine the individual understandings, building

relationships, problem - solving and lessons learned throughout this particular

experience.

My comprehension of the complex and varied facets of urban design

has greatly increased as a result of the Major Plate activity. The

interconnection and mutual influence of many urban systems, including

transportation networks, vital infrastructure, and social fairness principles,

really captivated me. My perspective on urban planning has changed as a

result of this new insight, which emphasizes how crucial it is to use

comprehensive design techniques that put human needs and experiences first.

I now recognize the need for design techniques that promote inclusion and

improve the quality of life for all urban dwellers after taking into account the

broader implication of these interrelated systems.

I got to use a number of crucial abilities and ideas associated with

urban design during the exercise. This required carrying out in-depth site

evaluations to comprehend the potential, constraints, and existing conditions.

Investigating the foundations of urban form and space in order to create urban

environments that are both distinctly defined and useful. In order to lessen the

impact on the environment, we also integrated sustainable methods into the


design process. Finally, we used participatory design techniques to consider

the community's needs and goals.

Managing the competing expectations made by the many organizations

engaged was one of the biggest obstacles we encountered during the project.

Negotiation and compromise needed to be approached carefully and

strategically because every party had different requirements, expectations,

and objectives. To address this important challenge, we adopted a

cooperative strategy that included actively conversing with stakeholders in an

open and transparent manner. Our goal was to find common ground that

would meet the various demands of all parties concerned by establishing an

atmosphere of communication and understanding.

My future approaches to urban design projects will undoubtedly be

influenced by the knowledge I acquired during the Major Plate exercise.

Considering the social, economic, and environmental facets of urban growth, I

will try to adopt a holistic vision. Additionally, I will stress the significance of

community involvement, proactively requesting input from locals and other

interested parties in order to create more adaptable and inclusive designs.

I learned a lot from the Major Plate exercise, which improved my

comprehension of urban design concepts and procedures. Through

addressing obstacles and putting innovative solutions into practice, I've grown

more confident in my capacity to contribute to the creation of vibrant,

sustainable, and just urban environments. As I go with future initiatives, I will

keep using the information and abilities I acquired from this expertise.
