CONTRIBUTION AND IMPACT OF ANDROID OS
The Android operating system is completely open source. By providing a free of charge and open
Operating System, Android has helped proliferate affordable mobile devices around the world. Bacause of
devices like this, people across the globe have access to new opportunities — whether it’s starting a
business, sharing a video with the world, or gaining an education for themselves or their children.
Android has transformed the way we communicate, work, and interact with technology. By democratizing
access to mobile computing and empowering developers with open tools and resources, Android has
fueled a thriving ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Moreover, Android has played a pivotal role in bridging the digital divide, bringing affordable smartphones
and internet connectivity to underserved communities worldwide. The accessibility and affordability of
Android devices have facilitated greater connectivity, access to information, and economic opportunities
for millions of people, driving social and economic development.
CHALLENGES AND ISSUES OF ANDROID OS
The main reason is that Android development can be extremely challenging due to the platform's
openness, vulnerability and a great range of different Android devices available on the market.
Software Fragmentation
There are many Android devices running different versions of the Android operating system, which makes
it incredibly hard for developers to keep up with all the different options. Many app developers choose to
focus only on the latest Android versions, although this approach is highly impractical because it
encompasses only a small part of the Android users who installed the most recent upgrade of the
operating system.
Mobile Device Fragmentation
It is not only the different versions of the OS holding Android developers back, but also the numerous
different devices available on the market. Each device has its own unique features, the most important of
which are the display size and resolution. Android app designers have to bear in mind that they need to
thoroughly test applications to ensure that they work across all the major smartphone and tablet models.
This will require significant financial investment and time resources.
Security Problems
The Internet is flooded with malware, which sometimes affects Google Play because of Android’s lack of
strict guidelines for app development as opposed to Apple. Moreover, it is extremely hard to deal with
malware because of mobile device fragmentation, as every problem should be fixed on hundreds of
various devices with different OS versions. Resulting in Android apps and devices being exposed to many
security risks.
Patent Issues
This can become one of the major challenges for an Android developer, because it can be really tempting
to incorporate innovative features that you have seen in some other app into your own application, without
knowing that they have been patented.
Absence of Standard User Interface (UI) for Android
A hardware manufacturer can customize the stock Android operating system, as per its precise needs
and strategy. Also, they have the option to design a custom user interface (UI) for the device, as Google
does not provide standard UI services for the Android operating system. Hence, the User Interface differs
from one Android to another, making it one of the prominent challenges in Android app development.
AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT
SOFTWARE FRAGMENTATION
Android devices run on different versions of the operating system. Some users might be on the latest
release, while others could be on older versions. Developers need to write code that is compatible with a
wide range of Android versions, ensuring that their app functions reliably on all of them.
MOBILE DEVICE FRAGMENTATION
Android operates on a wide range of devices such as smartphones, tablets and even non-traditional
devices like smart TVs and automotive infotainment systems. Each of these devices might have different
screen sizes, aspect ratios or hardware specifications. App designers are supposed to be able to cope
with all of these configurations gracefully.
SECURITY
You should encrypt the sensitive data during transmission and storage and implement secure
authentication mechanisms to enhance mobile app security. You should also consider regularly updating
the libraries and dependencies to address security vulnerabilities and use other security techniques to
overcome the Android coding challenges.
PATENT ISSUE
Respecting intellectual property rights is crucial in app development. Using copyrighted information
without proper authorization can lead to legal troubles. It is essential to be aware of patent and copyright
laws to ensure compliance.

To overcome the problem of standard UI for Android, you can always implement the UI design guidelines
recommended by Google to make the Android apps look appealing. However, you first must explore ways
and follow the latest mobile app design trends to keep the app layout responsive as well as adaptive to
make the app compatible with individual devices.
