Amplifier Gain Calculations Tutorial

The document presents a tutorial question involving calculations of power gain and voltage gain in decibels for a device with specified input and output parameters. It also includes a practical application involving an LM124 quad op-amp configured as a three-stage amplifier, requiring the calculation of gain for each stage and the output voltage for a given input. The question prompts explanations for the relationship between power and voltage gains.

Tutorial Question

(a) The input power to a device is 10,000 W at a voltage of 1000 V.

The output power is 500 W and the output impedance is 20 V.

i. Find the power gain in decibels.

ii. Find the voltage gain in decibels.
iii. Explain why parts (i) and (ii) agree or disagree.

(b) Figure 1 below shows the connection of an LM124 quad op-amp

as a three-stage amplifier with gains of A1, A2, and A3. Use a 270-
kΩ feedback resistor for all three circuits. Calculate;

i. Gain of each stage.

ii. Output voltage for an input of 150 µV?
