Data Profiling

Now, let's have a look at the data profiling and data sampling Collibra Catalog does. Let's go into our Data
Dictionary and select the Worldwide CO2 Emission schema. See that below the schema there is one table? Let's
open that table.

Now, this is a table that has been profiled by Collibra Catalog. What you see here is that the normal asset page
where you can see the columns it contains. You also see on the left that there is a Data Profiling tab. Clicking Data
Profiling makes me jump on the asset page to the data profiling section. This is like any other section, collapsible
on the asset page.

Now, you can see here the same columns of the table that are listed. But, you see that the parameters of these
columns that are listed here are actually parameters that were detected by data profiling. For example, the number
of missing values, the number of distinct values, and so on. Columns can be added and removed by the column
picker. For example, I could say I also want a technical data type to be shown here. And I want a technical data
type to appear in front of the chart. There you go. Here, you see a technical data type is shown.

Now, I can list all of these values in this table. Or I can just say that I want to go to a certain column and see more
detail on it. Now before we're doing that, let's have a look a bit further down the page and see what else is profiled.
Immediately, you can see that a sample of the data is taken. You see that the table contains a column "Country,
Region, Year, From Natural Gas", and so. And you see that sample of the data is taken here. This data can be
masked for people that are not allowed to see it. This masking is done using a resource permission in Collibra
Catalog.

Now let's go to one of those columns. For example, let's go to the From Coal Per Capita column. What you will see
on this page is that the Data Profiling section actually shows all parameters that are profiled. The original column
name, data type, and so on. This is things we get from data source immediately. But these statistics are all
calculated by Collibra's Data Profile. And very interesting is also that you can see a graph at the bottom. See that
here there is a very high peak, which makes it hard for me to see what these values are. Therefore, Collibra graphs
allows you to zoom in to the level of detail that you want to see. Also, again, on this column level you can see the
sample of the data.
