Chassis and System Integration Trainee Module

Hello Bachas! Welcome to the Chassis and system integration module!

In this module, you will learn fundamentals crucial for Race Car designing. This
module being a thorough combination of theoretical lessons, simulations, and
CADDing exercises will provide you with a holistic understanding of the challenges
and best practices involved in chassis and system integration. Your efforts and
understanding will be evaluated continuously, and you will be rewarded (or face
consequences) based on your punctuality and performance in the module.

Your main takeaways from these modules will be:

1. The contents of the modules
2. Being punctual
3. Delivering what is expected of you
4. Maintaining notes

Throughout the module, your first points of contact for any doubts or clarifications will be the
Junior Design Engineers.

Devesh Mittal: [8355805193]

Shrivardhan Kondekar: [7821052009]

(PS: Feel free to discuss your doubts with co-trainees as well.)

Key learnings you will be gaining from these modules:

1. Learn and implement critical CADDing skills used in the design of chassis in Solidworks.
2. Have a good understanding of the important types of chassis and the characteristics of
each type.
3. Understand what goes into building a chassis from a blank sheet.

You are expected to thoroughly understand the following content week-wise. Ask as many
doubts as you will encounter along the line in the review meets.

Contents:

Week 1:

For a basic understanding on Chassis and the loads applied on a chassis, You will have to
go through the following two modules:

Module 1:- Primary Chassis Module

Module 2:- Introduction to the theory of global loads

Once this is done, you’ll have to read the following two Design Reports of the car’s of other
formula student teams to get an idea about how a chassis is designed. Following is the link
to the Chassis Design Reports (There are three optional design reports as well, You can
have a look into them as well in your free time)

Also, For the final assignment of Week 2, You will have to learn about surface cadding in
solidworks. For which, You will have to watch the following videos and get a good amount of
idea on how to use surface cadding, where there are 2 videos on building bodyworks for
FSAE cars.

And finally, Once you’re promoted to a Junior Design Engineer, You will also need to know
more about 3D printing while you will be manufacturing the parts you’ve created. For that,
Go through the following video about 3D Printing

We suggest you get done with the two primary modules on the day one itself and start
reading the design reports while parallely working on the bottom two tasks. The number of
pages may seem a lot at first but once you go through one of the Design reports, the second
one will feel more easier to read.

Week 2:-

After going through this much theory in week one, Let’s get to some hands on work. For
complete week 2, Your task will be to design a rear top for our E13. That’s it!

Rear top, as the name suggests, is the outermost covering of the rear part of the chassis,
which saves the rear part of the chassis, where most of the electrical components are
placed, from being exposed. You should know that the rear top must also be rule compliant,
which will put constraints on your design. So make sure to check out the rulebook once
before starting the design process. The required CAD’s and processes to be followed are
provided in the following link
