Introduction of the project
Rehabilitation of Jubilee Bridge, Ajah is for the benefit of the mankind.
Objective of the project
The objective of Civil engineering department in the site includes to;
i. counsel the civil engineering department regarding the suitable Civil machinery, and the condition that will yield a
satisfactory result.
ii. proper install, and maintain all activities relate to Civil equipment and facilities.
iii. test run the equipment such as dozer, grader, water tanker before taking to the field for used.

3.1.4 Applications of Health, Safety and Environmental Standards to the Area of Practice
Health and safety are an important consideration in any construction project. Not just to keep your work place
safe, but also to comply with the law. This may include providing of safety wear like helmets and medical aid
during emergencies.
3.1.5 Scope of the Works
The scope of these engineering experience was to install, and maintain all activities relate to Civil equipment and
facilities. Testing running the equipment such as dozer, grader before taking to the field for operation. Also keep
records of maintenance of machinery and equipment.
3.1.6 My involvement in this Project:
Worked as a Graduate Civil Engineer in this project, I supervised the following activities and my involvement is
shown in Appendix:
(a) Installation and Replacement of Dozer (D8N) track
i. New track was place at the back of the old track (underneath).
ii. The tip of the old track is connected to the tip of the new one
iii. I instructed the operator to start the engine and jack up the blade and the ripper so that the unit we be lift up, and also
to ensure that the speed remain in the idle position.
iv. With help of the crane after ensure the hook is inserted correctly, old track is hanged above the new track.
v. The transmission lever is put at reverse speed position and the parking jack is release.
vi. The final drive rotates slowly such that the new track moves forward and the old track move backward, it was also
ensured that the new track (above) remain in the middle of the idler.
vii. After the completion release of the bolt between the track, the old track is placed at safe position.
[Link] the help of the crane the new track is lift up and support underneath so that the tip track is in the middle of idler.
ix. The bolt is tightened, and the track is adjusted in accordance to specification
x. Lock-out of facility is removed and the dozer (D8N) is parked in the appropriate area.
(b) Test run the Dozer (D8N)
i. We service the dozer by draining the oil, and replaced with new oil
ii. We change the oil, and diesel filters
iii. The gauge was check for oil and diesel
iv. I instructed the operator to start the machine, then studied the operation for 30 minutes.
v. After verification it was taken to the site for road work.
(C) I keeping record of all the activities going on in the Civil deportation which includes;
i. Maintenance Record
ii. Oil and Diesel Record
iii. Requisition Record
3.1.7 Challenges encountered and Solutions
Challenge
It was difficult to lose some bolt from the old track because it worn-out.
Solutions
Acetylic gas was used to burn off the bolt
Challenge
It was observed with fixing the new track that the thread position worn-out
Solutions
Tie and dye equipment was used to correct the thread line
3.1.8 Experience Gained
The experiences gained during my graduate engineer were: -
i. Ability to maintain proper machine equipment and service when due.
ii. How to coordinate workers for a given task such as replacing of track task.
iii. Accurate report keeping
4.0 Project: Construction of Shops units
Location: Omotola Plaza, Agege, Lagos State
Consultant:
Project Cost: 25Million
Position: Civil Engineer
Introduction:
The project comprises of commercial shop units.
Responsibility:
Design: preliminary design and final working design drawings, preparation of bill of
engineering measurement and supervision of the project.
Design task and solution offered:
a) Estimation of tank capacities: surface ground tank and elevated tanks were proposed. With the
idea of number of fittings and the capacity of water it can hold and daily water demand in an
office building, the tank capacities were estimated.
b) To ensure continuous water supply, drilling of borehole and connection to water board mains
was adopted.
c) Water distribution to the sanitary units in various blocks and stand taps was achieved by gravity
distribution method via stanchion height of 6m.
d) Estimation of pump capacity: water booster pump capacity was computed.
e) Drainage system: soil and waste drainage from various sanitary units was accomplished
through gravity drainage system discharging into septic tank and soak away pits systems.
f) Air conditioning: in line with design brief and the nature of the building, split unit air
conditioning system were adopted after the cooling load were analyzed and computed.
Engineering problems encountered:
While test running the water system after installation, I noticed the following problems:
Dripping faucets,
Running toilets, waste water up to 200 gallons per day.
Steps taken to solved the challenges are:
Turned off the main water line
The flapper valve controlling water passes from the toilets tank to its bowl is faulty, and it was
replaced
Experience gained:
a) Material selection for specific installation
b) Sizing of pressurized pump
c) Construction of septic tank and soak away pit

Client:
Contractor:
Project Cost: #70 Million
Position held: Project Engineer
Period: 10 months
5.1.3) PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The site is situated at Pinnock Beach, Ajah, Nigeria. The project is a residential complex
owned by an individual. This project spanned for a period of 10months. The site was
characterized with a stable soil at 1m trench excavation, there was an existing building
which had to be demolished for this new building. The soil bearing capacity is 150kn/m2.
Courtesy of this, strip foundation with pad column footing was constructed
Depth of strip of 1m and 150mm thick first floor slab. The built of area is about 321m2.
5.1.4) : SCOPE OF THE WORK:
The scope of this work is construction of the building substructure to finishing.
5.1.5) MY INVOLVEMENT IN THIS PROJECT:
1. Preparation of the structural design and detailing of this project
Interpretation of drawings on site for the workers; Structural and Architectural plans.
Supervising all site activities making sure each construction stage is completed as scheduled and
according to drawing specification.
Determination of levels on site with level instrument.
Setting out of partition wall blocks after oversite concrete have been cast
Confirmation of smooth plastering of wall.
Instructing masons on mix ratio for both casting and mortar according to structural details.
Confirmation of alignment of carpenter’s form work.
10
2. Participated in the evaluation of material quantities.
Calculation of number of blocks, reinforcement and wood for formwork to be supplied to site at
different milestones of the project.
3. Site accounts officer/Paying of workers’ wages.
Counting numbers laid blocks to determine the mason’s wage

4) Conflict resolution between site workers
Ensuring site health and safety rules are strictly being adhered to by workers.
5.1.6) CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED AND SOLUTION:
Non provision of PPE. The site workers had to provide their own PPE.
Conflict always arose between site workers. To halt this, we dismissed anyone who attempted
to physically assault another.
Irregular payment of wages which lead to industrial action several by casual workers and this greatly
slowed down the process.
Theft case was recorded on site from site workers this led to distrust among team members
especially the casual workers, Hence, a strict site security was implemented, a book that enables
workers to sign in and out was provided to keep track.
