Compensation Trend in IT sector Salary compensation in the Information & Technology Industry has been the topic with

debates in the last few years. There has been a lot of variation in the salary trend because of the recession. Still this sector finds a booming growth in the Indian market. According to a survey the highest salary increase in Information & Technology sector in India was in the year 2003.

Salaries Trends The 2010 IT Salary Guide, based on data from Robert Half Technology, lists IT salaries for a broad range of professionals, from IT manager to software developer to security administrator to help desk manager. The Guide also provides data about IT salary levels for regions across the world, and suggests the salary incentives for related IT skills (such as C++, Oracle database, Cisco network, or Visual Basic skills). The variation in Salary within the IT sector is not much. The difference in incentives may exist at a very small fraction within the industries. Of the total number of IT professionals 74% falls in the category of employees having experience 1-9 years. The Indian IT professionals who have working experience of about 5-9 years account to about 33% in the IT sector, and get a salary of about Rs 6 to Rs 9 lakh. Another chunk of professionals which is about 39% gets Rs 9 to Rs 12 lakh. Putting together these category of IT professionals having 5 to 9 years of experience draw between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 12 lakh per annum. The employees having upto 4 years of experience draw between Rs 4-6 lakh per year. This band is comparatively broader here, which is 41% of the total IT sector. In which, 32% draw salary between Rs 2-4 lakh and another 8% draws Rs 6-8 lakh per annum. Except the 1% majority which can be neglected the remaining 98% employees gets between Rs 2 and Rs 8 lakh.
