Chapter Two
Answer the following questions:
1. The pantry was full of food and drinks. Explain.
-Mrs Joe prepared a lot of food because of the Christmas and invited Mr

Pumblechook, Mr Wopsle and Mr Hubble and his wife.

2. What did Pip take to the man in the marshes? How did he cover that?
-He took some bread, a piece of hard cheese, a bone with meat, a pork pie and

some whiskey. He hid all these things into a bundle.

3. Pip was very surprised when he went to the marshes again. Explain.
-When Pip reached near the church, he found a man on the ground shivering. Pip

tapped his shoulder. He wasn’t the same man that Pip met first time. He ran away

as he thought that this was the man who cuts out hearts of boys.

4. Pip’s family was expecting visitors for Christmas. Who?


-They were expecting Mr Pumblechook, Mr Wopsle, Mr Hubble and his wife.

5. Mrs Joe found Christmas a great chance to complain about Pip. İllustrate.
-Pip wasn’t allowed to speak. Every Christmas, Mr Wopsle used to pray and hope to

be truly grateful. Mrs Joe used this as an excuse to look at Pip and tell him be

grateful.

6. Explain Mr Pumblechook’s reaction after he drank the whiskey.


-He stood up suddenly, turned around wildly several times and rushed for the

door. Mr and Mrs Joe ran after him and saw him coughing roughly anf making

terrible faces.

7. While Pip was trying to escape before being discovered. Who came to the
house?
-He ran into armed soldiers and their sergeant who held a pair of handcuffs.

Comment on the following quotations:


1. “Aren’t you going to leave any food for your friend?”

-Pip said that to the convict in the marshes when he met the convict and gave him

the food, but the convict wolfed the food.

2. “Did you hear that? Be grateful!”

-Mrs Joe said that to Pip in the dining room when Mr Wopsle prayed the

Christmas prayer and mentioned to be grateful, so Mrs Joe looked at Pip and told

him to be grateful.

3. “He would have been dead and buried long ago if I had not looked after him.”

-Mrs Joe said that to Mr Pumblechook and Mrs Hubble when they were talking

about Pip and how he was a source of troubles to Mrs Joe.
