Process 5
The diagram shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from
sugar cane.
The diagram illustrates the typical process of producing sugar from sugar canes. Overall, sugar
production is relatively complex, containing seven steps, starting with growing sugar canes and
ending up with drying and cooling sugar.
It can be clearly observed from the process that the production starts by planting and growing sugar
canes over a period of 12-18 months. After that, the mature sugar canes are harvested either
manually or by agricultural machinery. Subsequently, sugar canes are pulverized in a crusher
machine for extracting juice. In the fourth step, the liquid continues to be introduced into a
limestone filler for purifying and eliminating residue.
The syrup is condensed from this pure juice at a high temperature in an evaporator and poured into
a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins the syrup at high speed to separate sugar crystals in the next step.
Finally, the crystals are dried and cooled in a large container to produce finished sugar.
