Phase 1, x00+ VMs need to be migrated in one month. Phase 2, x000+
Migration time VMs will be migrated in 6 months.
Plan in advance and allocate enough manpower based on the migration period.

• Migrate services during off-peak hours

• Ensure network stability and set enough migration bandwidth
Service interruption To migrate all VMs with minimum Service interruption • Online Migration
• Leverage applications HA/DR to avoid service interruption
• Ensure that each operation can be rolled back

To migrate with IP unchanged, need to expand L2BR network service in L2BR expansion on the live network plan in advance to avoid affect migration starting
IP change HCS, need to take about 1 month time

GuestOS compatibility evaluated in advance: RHEL 7.9,RHEL 8.8… Submit requirements to R&D immediately, test completed in 2 weeks after accepted

Applications deployed using the OVA template on the customer's live

GuestOS network. These applications use customized OSs and cannot be migrated
using the migration tool The migration priority of this type of applications is lowered, driving customers to
compatibility redeploy them
Long EOS operating systems, such as Windows 2000, are not maintained
officially.
Frequent OS upgrade Freeze OS upgrade two weeks before migration

• High source compatibility: 200+ common OS versions are supported.
• Efficient migration: 100+ migration tasks can be concurrently executed.
• Online migration: In full+incremental mode, full migration with zero downtime and
incremental migration during off-peak hours ensure service continuity.

VM Migration Methods
Host Migration Tool (Rainbow) migrates vm instances based on OS Block/File-level migration.
• Method1 Linux File-level migration(Agentless) : Linux VM migration excluding specified directories without agent
• Method2 Windows Block-level migration : only copy used or changed sectors to enhance efficiency
• Method3 Linux Block-level migration(Optional) : Compared with file migration, block migration reduces the time spent on file traversal and access. It is suitable for
migration scenarios where there are a large number of small files or sparse files(noted: specific directories can’t be excluded)

Method 1: Linux File-level migration(Agentless)

/ /boot /data
/tmp / / File-level migration: Copy the
files on the source host to the
/boot /data destination VM.
/boot /data

Method 2&3: Block-level migration

1 1 Block-level migration: Copy the

sectors marked as used in the
2 5 4 3 2 1 disk to the destination end. In
this example, the second and
3 3 fifth sectors are not used, and
the migration process is not
5 4 4 repeated.

Migration Implementation

Migration • We use Rainbow to migrate VMs from VMware to HCS with their IP addresses remaining unchanged.
Implementation • During the migration, databases, middleware, and other applications deployed on VMs must be migrated and verified under the support from ISVs.

Pre-requirement:
VM Migration Implementation
1. Provide information of to be migrated VMs(IP, non-root user with sudo rights and etc.)(VM owner)
2. Freeze OS upgrade 2-weeks before migration (VM owner)
3. Provide same number of un-used IP addresses in same subnet (Planning team)

Migration Steps(without service interruption):

1. Create ECS resources in HCS.

3. Migrate source standby vms , perform full data and incremental data synchronization.
